Let’s Dive into 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover, Ripstop NyCo, Multicam,
The 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover, Ripstop NyCo, Multicam, is a seemingly simple piece of kit with the potential to significantly enhance a soldier’s or operator’s effectiveness in the field. It’s designed to fit the Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops (PASGT) helmet, adding a layer of camouflage and protection. This cover isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about blending into the environment and reducing the helmet’s signature.
I needed to upgrade my issued PASGT helmet to better match operational environments. My current cover was faded and lacked key features like secure attachment points. I was looking for something durable, reliable, and that could properly utilize the ubiquitous Multicam pattern.
My initial impression upon receiving the 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover was positive. The ripstop NyCo fabric felt substantial and the Multicam pattern appeared accurate and well-printed. The weight felt appropriate for a helmet cover, not adding undue burden.
Compared to generic, cheaper covers, the 5 Star immediately stood out with its 50/50 CORDURA NYCO rip-stop construction. Many alternatives use thinner materials that tear easily. I also considered the Tru-Spec KEVLAR® PSGT Helmet Cover, but opted for the 5 Star due to a slightly lower price point and seemingly similar feature set. I was also looking at a cover from a more boutique brand, but the cost was prohibitive for what is essentially a camouflage sleeve.
I was cautiously optimistic. The quality seemed good for the price, but the real test would be how it performed in the field. Would it stay put, withstand abuse, and effectively conceal?
Real-World Testing: Putting 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover, Ripstop NyCo, Multicam, to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover during a weekend-long training exercise at a local military training area. The environment was varied, including woodland, open fields, and a mock urban setting. The weather cooperated with light rain and muddy conditions.
The cover performed admirably in the wet conditions, resisting significant water absorption. It blended effectively within the woodland environment due to the Multicam pattern. Attachment was easy, utilizing the hook & loop fastener system, and remained secure throughout the exercise.
No initial issues arose during the first use. The cover fit snugly and didn’t shift or become loose during strenuous activity such as running and crawling. This was a welcome change from previous experiences with ill-fitting covers that needed constant readjustment.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use in various training exercises and range days, the 5 Star PASGT Helmet Cover has proven to be a reliable piece of kit. It has endured exposure to sun, rain, mud, and brush without significant degradation. The cover maintains its color integrity and structural integrity.
Durability has been impressive. There are no signs of tearing or fraying of the ripstop NyCo fabric. The stitching remains intact, despite repeated attachment and detachment.
Maintenance is simple: a quick wash with mild detergent and air drying is sufficient to remove dirt and grime. The cover dries quickly, thanks to the NyCo blend. It definitely outperforms the old, non-ripstop cotton covers I used to use, which would fade and tear after only a few uses.
