First Thoughts on the OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey
The OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey presents itself as a cost-effective and durable archery target, designed to mimic the realistic appearance of a strutting turkey. Marketed as an alternative to expensive 3D targets or simple paper faces, this target boasts self-healing closed cell foam construction for enhanced longevity and weather resistance. At a price point of $24.49, it aims to deliver value and practicality to archers of various skill levels.
I’ve been an avid archery enthusiast for over a decade, primarily focusing on bowhunting wild turkeys. I needed a reliable and realistic target for practicing shot placement without breaking the bank on a full-sized 3D model.
Upon unboxing, the initial impression is one of simplicity and functionality. It is lightweight, which is good, but also makes me question how well it will hold up in wind. The foam feels firm but pliable, as expected from a self-healing material. While it lacks the intricate details of higher-end 3D targets, the basic strutting turkey form is readily identifiable. Compared to a block target, the OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey offers a more realistic aiming point for hunting scenarios.
The OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey immediately struck me as a product that prioritizes practicality over aesthetics. I am cautiously optimistic that it will prove to be a valuable training tool.
Real-World Testing: Putting OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey was at my local archery range, a well-maintained outdoor facility. I placed it at varying distances, from 20 to 40 yards, simulating typical hunting scenarios.
The target held up surprisingly well to various arrow types and draw weights, even during a light drizzle. The arrows were easily removed, and the self-healing foam appeared to close up quickly after each shot. It was a little windy, so I had to be careful to keep it from blowing over.
Initially, I was concerned about the target’s relatively small size and lack of intricate details, but it proved sufficient for practicing precise shot placement. There were no alarming rips or tears in the material after the first use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, the OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey is showing signs of wear, as expected, but remains functional. Arrow impacts have created some minor surface indentations, but the foam continues to “heal” effectively.
Durability seems to be a strong point for a target in this price range; it has endured numerous practice sessions without significant degradation. Cleaning is simple: I just wipe off any dirt or debris with a damp cloth. Compared to my previous experiences with less durable foam targets, the OnCore Archery Target Strutting Turkey is performing well.
