First Thoughts on the Pachmayr Gripper Decelerator T.C. Contender #05054
The Pachmayr Gripper Decelerator T.C. Contender #05054 is a rubber pistol grip designed specifically for the Thompson/Center Contender single-shot pistol. Pachmayr is a well-known and respected name in the firearms accessory world, particularly renowned for their recoil-absorbing grips.
Years of shooting magnum handgun cartridges through a T/C Contender left me with a healthy respect for recoil management. I was looking for a grip to tame the felt recoil of heavy loads, improving both accuracy and comfort. Unboxing the Pachmayr Gripper Decelerator T.C. Contender #05054, the first thing I noticed was the classic Pachmayr checkered rubber texture. It felt solid and well-made, giving me an immediate sense of quality.
Compared to the factory wood grip, or even some aftermarket polymer grips, the Pachmayr offered a noticeably softer feel. This hinted at its recoil-reducing capabilities. I picked this over a Hogue grip due to my previous positive experiences with Pachmayr’s durability, and over a cheaper brand because I didn’t want to risk comfort and longevity. My initial reaction was optimistic, hoping it would live up to its “Decelerator” name and provide a more enjoyable shooting experience with my Contender.
