First Thoughts on the Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip for AR-15 MLOK – Black
The AR-15 platform is renowned for its modularity, allowing shooters to tailor their rifle to specific needs and preferences. One of the most common upgrades is the angled foregrip, designed to improve ergonomics and weapon control. The Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip for AR-15 MLOK – Black promises a customized grip experience with its three-piece design and durable aluminum construction.
I’ve always been on the lookout for the perfect grip to improve stability during rapid firing drills. I’ve tried a few different grips over the years, but none have quite provided the balance of comfort and control I was seeking. This Black River grip caught my eye with its promise of modularity and the reputation of aluminum for durability.
Upon unboxing, the grip felt solid and well-made. The Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip components are cleanly machined, and the black anodized finish gives it a professional, tactical look. The weight is noticeable but not excessive, suggesting a good balance between strength and agility.
Compared to some polymer angled grips I’ve used, the aluminum construction of this grip feels significantly more robust. I was considering a Magpul AFG and a BCM Gunfighter Vertical Grip Mod 3, but I liked the customizable design of the Black River grip, allowing me to experiment with different configurations. My initial impression is very positive; it appears to be a well-designed and constructed grip that’s worth the investment.
Real-World Testing: Putting Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip for AR-15 MLOK – Black to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip was at my local outdoor range, which offers a variety of shooting scenarios. I mounted it on my AR-15 with an MLOK handguard and ran through various drills, including rapid target acquisition, transitions, and sustained fire. The grip was tested in dry, sunny conditions.
The initial feeling was excellent. The angled design naturally positioned my hand for a comfortable and secure grip. There was a slight learning curve in finding the optimal configuration with the three modular pieces, but once I did, it significantly improved my control during rapid firing strings. I did have to tighten the screws once after about 100 rounds, so using some thread locker is recommended.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Black River 3 Piece Aluminum Modular Angled Grip has held up impressively. There are no signs of cracking or bending, even after some accidental bumps and scrapes during training exercises. The anodized finish has proven to be resistant to scratches and wear.
Maintenance is simple; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. It outperforms the polymer grips I’ve used in the past in terms of durability and rigidity. This Black River grip gives me better purchase on the forend when compared to using the bare rail or even gloves alone.
