First Thoughts on the Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove Slip-On Mossberg Shockwave/Remington Tac-14 Rubber Black
The Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove Slip-On Mossberg Shockwave/Remington Tac-14 Rubber Black is a simple yet potentially crucial upgrade for anyone wielding these compact, powerful firearms. It’s a product designed to enhance grip and control, addressing a common complaint about the factory grips on these platforms. The Pachmayr name carries weight in the firearms accessory world, suggesting a baseline of quality and thoughtful design.
My journey to this grip glove started with a less-than-pleasant experience at the range. Running a few rounds of 3″ magnum loads through my Shockwave left my hand aching and control feeling precarious. The original bird’s head grip, while iconic, simply wasn’t cutting it for serious shooting.
Unboxing was straightforward; it’s a rubber grip, after all. The material felt substantial and grippy, not flimsy or cheap. The fit looked snug and promised a secure hold once installed.
I considered a few alternatives, including aftermarket grips that require removing the factory bird’s head. I wanted a simple, non-permanent solution that wouldn’t alter the Shockwave’s original profile too much. This Pachmayr slip-on seemed like the perfect balance of functionality and ease of installation.
My initial excitement was tempered with a healthy dose of skepticism. Could a simple rubber sleeve really make a noticeable difference in recoil management and overall control? Only time, and a few boxes of shells, would tell.
Real-World Testing: Putting Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove Slip-On Mossberg Shockwave/Remington Tac-14 Rubber Black to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at an outdoor shooting range. The weather was dry and mild, providing ideal conditions to assess the grip glove’s performance. I ran a mix of birdshot, buckshot, and slug rounds through my Mossberg Shockwave, paying close attention to how the grip felt and how well I could maintain control.
The difference was immediately noticeable. The Pachmayr grip provided a much more secure and comfortable hold. It significantly reduced the felt recoil, especially with heavier loads.
Installation required a bit of effort, involving some stretching and maneuvering. Once in place, it stayed put. No slipping or shifting during firing, which was a major plus.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range trips and approximately 200 rounds of various ammunition, the Pachmayr grip has proven its worth. The rubber hasn’t shown any signs of cracking or tearing. It remains securely in place, even after repeated use.
Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth removes any residue or grime. The grip hasn’t absorbed any oils or solvents. It still looks and feels like new.
Compared to the factory grip, the Pachmayr grip is a night-and-day difference. It transforms the Shockwave/Tac-14 from a somewhat uncomfortable novelty into a much more controllable and enjoyable firearm to shoot. The improved grip instills confidence.
