Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow – 1 out of 46 models Review

What Makes Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow – 1 out of 46 models Stand Out?

In the world of pistol sights, where clarity, speed, and reliability are paramount, the Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow – 1 out of 46 models emerges as a top contender. These aren’t just sights; they’re a carefully engineered system designed to enhance target acquisition and improve shooting accuracy, particularly in challenging lighting conditions. Built by Trijicon, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the optics industry, this sight set promises to elevate your FN 509’s performance to the next level.

For years, I struggled with the factory sights on my FN 509, particularly when transitioning between bright daylight and dimly lit environments during training exercises. I needed a sight system that offered superior visibility in all lighting conditions, while also providing a precise sight picture for accurate shot placement at extended ranges. The promise of Trijicon’s HDXR line, with its thinner front sight post and enhanced visibility, piqued my interest.

Upon unboxing the Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow, I was immediately struck by the robust construction and attention to detail. The steel sights felt solid and well-machined, instilling confidence in their ability to withstand the rigors of regular use. The yellow front sight insert was vibrant and eye-catching, while the tritium vials glowed brightly, even in broad daylight.

Compared to other night sights I’ve used, such as the XS Sight Systems Big Dot or the TruGlo TFX Pro, the Trijicon HDXR offered a unique balance of speed and precision. The Big Dot excels in close-quarters engagements but lacks precision at longer distances, while the TFX Pro provides a good all-around performance but doesn’t quite match the HDXR’s long-range capabilities. The thinner front sight post of the HDXR was the deciding factor, offering a clearer view of the target for improved accuracy at distance.

My initial excitement stemmed from the potential for improved shooting performance in all lighting conditions. The clear sight picture and enhanced visibility promised to make a significant difference in my ability to quickly and accurately engage targets, regardless of the environment. It was time to see if the reality matched the hype.

Real-World Testing: Putting Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow – 1 out of 46 models to the Test

First Use Experience

My first experience with the Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow was at an outdoor shooting range under bright sunlight conditions. I wanted to get a feel for the sight picture and how the yellow front sight insert performed in daylight. The bright yellow dot was incredibly easy to acquire against various targets, making target transitions quick and intuitive.

The sights performed exceptionally well in the bright sunlight, and even better as the sun began to set. The tritium lamps became more pronounced as the ambient light decreased, creating a distinct and easily visible sight picture. I also tested the sights in a low-light indoor range, where the tritium lamps provided excellent visibility, allowing me to maintain accurate shot placement in near-darkness.

Installation was straightforward, requiring only a basic sight pusher tool. No gunsmithing was needed. The sights were properly sized for my FN 509 slide. After installation, the improvement was immediately apparent. I experienced much quicker target acquisition and a more precise sight picture than with the factory sights.

There were no major issues, but I did notice that the yellow front sight insert could appear slightly washed out in extremely bright conditions against light-colored targets. However, this was easily remedied by focusing on the black rear sight outlines, which provided a clear contrast.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Trijicon HDXR Night Sight Set for FN 509 w/ Yellow has proven to be incredibly durable and reliable. I’ve put several hundred rounds downrange with the sights installed, and they have maintained their zero without any noticeable shifting. They also hold zero after repeated cleaning.

The sights show no signs of wear and tear, despite being subjected to the harsh recoil of the FN 509 and frequent exposure to cleaning solvents. The steel construction is clearly built to last, and the tritium lamps continue to glow brightly, even after prolonged use. I clean the sights regularly with a soft cloth and gun cleaner to remove any residue or buildup.

Compared to my previous experiences with other night sights, the Trijicon HDXR has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability, visibility, and accuracy. The enhanced sight picture and robust construction make it a clear winner in my book.
