What Makes Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster, – 1 out of 5 models Stand Out?
The Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster, – 1 out of 5 models is a duty-grade holster designed for professionals who demand secure weapon retention and rapid accessibility. Manufactured by Safariland, this holster incorporates both the Automatic Locking System (ALS) and Self Locking System (SLS), creating a formidable combination against unauthorized weapon removal while still allowing for a smooth, intuitive draw. Its suede lining protects the firearm’s finish, and the optional hood guard offers enhanced security.
As a seasoned gear specialist, I’ve witnessed countless holster designs come and go, but Safariland has consistently impressed with its dedication to durability and functionality. My need for a holster that could withstand the rigors of tactical training and potentially, real-world engagements, drove me to explore the 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster.
My initial impression of the Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster was positive, noting its robust construction and secure locking mechanisms. The holster felt substantial in hand, suggesting quality materials and a well-thought-out design, promising both security and ease of use.
Compared to some of the other tactical holsters on the market, such as the Blackhawk! Serpa or the Blade-Tech Total Eclipse, the Safariland stands out for its dual retention system. I chose the Safariland over those alternatives because of its proven track record in law enforcement and military applications, and a desire for a level of retention that inspired ultimate confidence.
My first impression was excitement mixed with a little apprehension; I was eager to test its draw speed and retention capabilities under pressure, but also wondered if the dual locking system would feel cumbersome.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster, – 1 out of 5 models to the Test
First Use Experience
I initially tested the Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster at an outdoor shooting range during a tactical pistol training course. The weather was typical for early spring: damp with intermittent rain.
The Safariland holster performed admirably, maintaining a secure grip on my Springfield XDM 9mm even when wet. The SLS hood rotated smoothly, and the ALS released the weapon with a natural thumb movement.
It took some practice to reliably deactivate both the SLS and ALS simultaneously without fumbling, but after a few hours, the draw stroke became fluid and consistent. My first surprise was how quickly I adapted to the dual retention system, and how confidently I could move without worrying about the weapon’s security.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use in various training scenarios, the Safariland 6304 ALS/SLS Tactical Holster has held up exceptionally well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear on the holster body.
The suede lining shows some minor wear from repeated draws, but it has not impacted the finish of my XDM. Cleaning involves simply wiping down the holster with a damp cloth and occasionally lubricating the SLS hood mechanism.
Compared to previous holsters I’ve used, the Safariland far surpasses them in terms of retention, durability, and overall peace of mind. The peace of mind knowing my firearm is secure under any circumstance outweighs any slight adjustment to the draw stroke that was required to master the SLS/ALS system.
