Let’s Dive into Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Left Hand 6305-295-552
The Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Left Hand 6305-295-552 is a purpose-built system designed for law enforcement, military personnel, and serious tactical users demanding secure weapon retention and rapid accessibility. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the holster industry, this holster boasts the Automatic Locking System (ALS) for secure retention and a quick-release leg harness for comfortable, customizable carry. It offers a compelling combination of security, speed, and adaptability, making it a serious contender for anyone needing a reliable duty holster.
Having spent years in the field, I needed a holster that could keep my sidearm secure during dynamic movements, yet still allow for a lightning-fast draw when necessary. I was searching for a level III retention holster that wouldn’t sacrifice speed or comfort, especially for extended periods of wear.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately struck by the robust construction and quality of the materials. The STX FDE Brown finish is aesthetically pleasing and appears highly durable. The leg harness feels substantial and well-padded, suggesting a comfortable fit even with a fully-loaded firearm.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder System before settling on the Safariland 6305 ALS. The Serpa, while popular, had some concerns about the release mechanism under stress, and the shoulder system didn’t suit my needs for a direct draw stroke. I chose the Safariland for its proven ALS retention system, reputation for durability, and the quick-release leg harness’s promise of a comfortable and customizable fit.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the features and build quality, but also aware that the true test would come in real-world use.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Left Hand 6305-295-552 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6305 ALS at a local shooting range during a dynamic shooting course designed to simulate real-world tactical scenarios. I ran drills involving sprinting, prone shooting, and engaging multiple targets. The goal was to assess the holster’s retention, draw speed, and overall comfort during high-intensity activity.
The holster performed admirably in dry conditions. The ALS system provided a secure hold on my H&K P30, even during aggressive movements. I also tested it after intentionally wetting the holster and grip; the ALS released without issue, proving reliability even when wet.
The draw stroke took some getting used to initially, as the ALS requires a specific thumb movement to deactivate the locking mechanism. After about an hour of practice, I was able to consistently achieve smooth, rapid draws without fumbling. There were no unexpected issues during this first range session, and the holster proved to be a reliable and secure platform for my sidearm.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use in various training scenarios and outdoor environments, the Safariland 6305 ALS has proven to be a highly durable and reliable piece of kit. I’ve subjected it to rain, mud, and dusty conditions with no noticeable degradation in performance. The SAFARILAMINATE construction seems exceptionally resistant to abrasion and wear.
After each use, I simply wipe down the holster with a damp cloth and occasionally apply a silicone-based lubricant to the ALS mechanism to ensure smooth operation. The leg harness straps have remained secure and haven’t required any significant adjustments. Compared to cheaper nylon-based holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland offers a superior level of durability and retention. I have full confidence in its ability to withstand the rigors of daily use in demanding environments.
