Let’s Talk About Galco iDefense Leather Holster, Ambidextrous, AMT – 1 out of 3 models
The Galco iDefense Leather Holster, Ambidextrous, AMT – 1 out of 3 models is a unique concealed carry solution from Galco, combining the utility of a tablet case with the practicality of a firearm holster. This ambidextrous holster, crafted from full-grain leather, aims to provide a discreet and convenient way to carry both a handgun and a tablet, catering to the modern individual who values both personal safety and digital connectivity.
As a gear specialist, I’ve always been on the lookout for innovative solutions that bridge the gap between tactical needs and everyday practicality. The need to carry a firearm discreetly while also having a tablet readily available for work or personal use led me to explore the Galco iDefense Leather Holster.
Upon unboxing the Galco iDefense Leather Holster, my initial impression was one of quality craftsmanship. The full-grain leather felt sturdy and well-stitched, promising durability, while the overall design cleverly concealed its true purpose. Its weight felt substantial, hinting at the internal reinforcement necessary to securely hold both a firearm and a tablet.
Compared to other concealed carry options like traditional IWB (Inside the Waistband) holsters or off-body carry bags, the Galco iDefense offers a distinct advantage: blending seamlessly into a professional or casual environment. Other tablet-holster combinations I’ve seen usually sacrificed firearm security for ease of access to the tablet, or vice versa, but the Galco seemed to address both needs with equal consideration. My excitement stemmed from the potential to have a discreet, functional, and secure carry solution for my firearm and tablet.
Real-World Testing: Putting Galco iDefense Leather Holster, Ambidextrous, AMT – 1 out of 3 models to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Galco iDefense Leather Holster primarily during my daily commute and at a local shooting range. My typical carry setup involved a Glock 19 and an iPad Mini. The holster’s elasticized compartment securely held the Glock, while the tablet was easily accessible on the adjustable backing plate.
The Galco iDefense performed admirably in various conditions, including a light rain shower during my walk to the train. The leather proved to be water-resistant, protecting both the firearm and tablet from moisture. Initially, I needed some time to adjust the tablet viewing angle and familiarize myself with the zipper placement for quick firearm access.
One slight issue arose during my first range visit; drawing the firearm quickly required a conscious effort to unzip the compartment and acquire a solid grip. However, with practice, the draw stroke became smoother and more efficient.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of daily use, the Galco iDefense Leather Holster has held up remarkably well. The full-grain leather has developed a pleasant patina, and the stitching remains intact. Minor scuffs and scratches are present, but they only add to the holster’s character.
Maintaining the Galco iDefense is straightforward; a simple wipe-down with a leather conditioner keeps it looking and functioning optimally. Compared to other leather holsters I’ve used, the iDefense seems more resistant to wear and tear, likely due to the reinforced construction. It outperforms any hybrid holster I’ve tried in terms of concealing bulk, as the tablet shape obscures the firearm’s outline.

Performance & Functionality
The Galco iDefense Leather Holster performs its job remarkably well, providing a discreet and secure means of carrying a firearm and tablet simultaneously. While not as fast as a dedicated OWB (Outside the Waistband) holster, the draw stroke is surprisingly efficient with practice. Its usability is enhanced by the adjustable tablet viewing angle, making it suitable for various tasks.
The holster’s strengths lie in its discreetness and versatility. Its primary weakness is the slightly slower draw speed compared to traditional holsters. However, it meets expectations for concealed carry in situations where a dedicated holster is not practical or socially acceptable.
