Let’s Talk About Refurbished, ATN X-Sight-4K 5-20x Pro Edition – 1 out of 9 models
The world of digital optics has exploded, and the Refurbished, ATN X-Sight-4K 5-20x Pro Edition – 1 out of 9 models sits at an interesting intersection of technology and traditional hunting. Offered by ATN, this scope boasts a suite of features aimed at modernizing the hunting experience, from 4K recording to ballistic calculations. Is a refurbished model a worthy gamble, or should you stick with new?
My aging eyes and the increasing prevalence of sounders on my property led me here. I needed an optic that could extend my effective hunting hours and provide clear visuals at longer ranges, without breaking the bank. The promise of night vision and the integrated ballistic calculator were particularly appealing.
The unit arrived in a plain box, clearly a refurbished product, but well-packed. My initial impression was positive; the scope felt solid and well-built, albeit a bit heavier than my traditional glass. The Mossy Oak Elements Terra finish looked great, blending well with the natural environment.
I considered the Sightmark Wraith HD and the Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 before settling on the ATN. The Sightmark felt cheaper in hand, and while the Pulsar had a better reputation for image quality, the ATN’s integrated features and the lower price point of the refurbished unit swayed me. My first impression was cautiously optimistic – excited by the technology, but aware that a refurbished unit can come with its own set of unknowns.
Real-World Testing: Putting Refurbished, ATN X-Sight-4K 5-20x Pro Edition – 1 out of 9 models to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the ATN X-Sight 4K was at my local shooting range, dialing it in during daylight hours. The one-shot zero feature proved surprisingly effective, getting me on paper quickly. As dusk approached, I switched to night mode and was impressed by the clarity of the image, though there was noticeable graininess compared to dedicated thermal optics.
The wet and humid conditions of that evening tested the scope’s weather resistance. I experienced no fogging or malfunctions, which was a relief. The learning curve was steeper than I anticipated. Navigating the menus and understanding the ballistic calculator took some time, and I definitely recommend reading the manual beforehand.
A minor issue arose: the battery life seemed shorter than the advertised 18 hours. I suspect this is a consequence of buying a refurbished unit and using the video recording feature extensively.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, primarily hunting hogs on my property, the X-Sight 4K has become a valuable tool. It’s allowed me to extend my hunting hours and effectively target hogs at distances I wouldn’t attempt with standard optics. The durability seems reasonable; it has withstood some bumps and scrapes without any major damage.
Cleaning the lens is straightforward, and I’ve found that keeping the firmware updated is crucial for optimal performance. Compared to my previous experiences with dedicated night vision scopes, the ATN offers a more versatile and user-friendly experience, though it doesn’t quite match the image clarity of higher-end dedicated NV devices.
Breaking Down the Features of Refurbished, ATN X-Sight-4K 5-20x Pro Edition – 1 out of 9 models
Specifications
Ultra High Definition 4K Sensor: The 4K sensor provides a detailed image, both during the day and at night. This allows for better target identification and clarity, especially at longer ranges.
Record Video in 1080P 30/60/120 fps: Capturing hunts in high definition is a great feature. The ability to record at different frame rates offers flexibility depending on the lighting conditions and desired video quality.
Wifi / Bluetooth: These connectivity options allow for easy sharing of photos and videos, as well as connecting to other devices, like rangefinders or weather meters. This integrates the scope into a broader smart hunting ecosystem.
Recoil Activated Video (RAV): This feature automatically records the moments before and after a shot. This can be useful for analyzing shot placement or sharing exciting moments with others.
Up to 18 Hours Battery Life: Long battery life is critical for extended hunts. While my refurbished unit didn’t quite achieve this, a fresh battery pack should get closer to the advertised duration.
Night Vision: The night vision capability is a major selling point. It extends hunting hours and allows for targeting nocturnal animals.
One Shot Zero: Simplifies the zeroing process. This reduces the time spent at the range and gets you hunting faster.
Ultra-Low Power Consumption: Contributes to the long battery life. This is especially important when using power-hungry features like video recording and WiFi.
Ballistic Calculator: This feature takes the guesswork out of long-range shooting. Inputting environmental factors and ammunition data allows for precise shot placement.
Smart Range Finder: Accurately determines the distance to the target. This is crucial for using the ballistic calculator effectively.
Recoil Resistance: Ensures the scope can withstand the forces of repeated recoil. This is essential for maintaining accuracy and preventing damage to the scope.
Stream Line Design: The streamlined design makes the scope more aerodynamic and aesthetically pleasing. It also makes it easier to mount and handle.
Performance & Functionality
The Refurbished, ATN X-Sight-4K 5-20x Pro Edition – 1 out of 9 models performs admirably as a day/night optic. Its image quality is impressive, and the ballistic calculator is a game-changer for long-range shots. The night vision is adequate, though not exceptional, and the one-shot zero feature saves a lot of time and frustration.
One weakness is the menu system, which can be clunky and difficult to navigate, especially in low light. The advertised battery life also falls short in my experience, likely due to the refurbished nature of the unit. Overall, it mostly meets my expectations, offering a versatile and feature-rich hunting experience.
Design & Ergonomics
The ATN X-Sight 4K is a solid, well-built optic. The materials used feel durable, and the Mossy Oak Elements Terra finish is aesthetically pleasing. It is heavier than traditional scopes, which can be a factor for some hunters. The learning curve is present, but manageable with practice.
Durability & Maintenance
The scope seems reasonably durable, withstanding the bumps and scrapes of regular hunting use. Maintaining it is straightforward, requiring only occasional lens cleaning and firmware updates. Long-term durability remains to be seen, especially considering this is a refurbished unit.
Accessories and Customization Options
The scope comes with a standard set of accessories, including an eye cup, sunshade, and scope rings. The ATN ecosystem offers a range of compatible accessories, such as auxiliary lights and rangefinders. It’s also compatible with standard Picatinny rails, making it easy to mount on a variety of rifles.
