Let’s Dive into Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1
The Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 is a simple yet incredibly practical tool for anyone working with reloading or muzzleloading. Manufactured by Hodgdon Powder, this inexpensive accessory promises to eliminate powder spills and make the process of transferring powder from the can to your measure or container much easier and safer. It’s a game-changer, especially for those of us who’ve had the frustrating experience of sending precious powder scattering across the bench.
My journey to finding the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 started, predictably, with a mess. Specifically, a frustrating afternoon spent trying to carefully pour black powder into my muzzleloader flask, resulting in more powder on the table than in the flask. I needed a solution to reduce waste and improve accuracy when loading.
Upon receiving the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1, I was immediately struck by its simplicity. It’s a small, black plastic funnel that screws directly onto the Hodgdon powder can. The build quality seems adequate for its intended purpose, nothing fancy, but functional.
I considered other powder funnels and measuring devices, but the appeal of the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 was its all-in-one design and compatibility with my existing Hodgdon powder cans. Stand-alone funnels require an extra hand and are another tool to clean. This one is simply more convenient.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. It looked like it would solve my problem, but I was skeptical about its universal fit. I’ve been burned before by “universal” products that don’t quite fit. The low price point made it worth the gamble, though.
Real-World Testing: Putting Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first real test of the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 was at my local outdoor shooting range. I was prepping my muzzleloader for the upcoming deer season. The weather was mild and dry, perfect for a day at the range.
The cap screwed onto my Hodgdon black powder can with ease. The pouring process was significantly smoother and more controlled than my previous free-pouring method. I experienced zero spills, a vast improvement.
The Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 made the loading process faster and more precise. It allowed me to confidently fill my powder measure without the fear of scattering powder. There were no issues, and it immediately felt like a must-have accessory.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 has proven to be a reliable addition to my reloading/muzzleloading setup. It has held up well. There are no signs of wear or damage, despite being tossed into my range bag.
The plastic construction is easy to clean. I simply wipe it down with a dry cloth after each use. This prevents any powder residue from building up.
Compared to my previous method of using a measuring cup and a shaky hand, the Hodgdon Powder Funnel/Pouring Cap FUN1 is a night and day difference. It’s faster, cleaner, and more accurate. It definitely outperforms my expectations for such an inexpensive item.
