Let’s Dive into Safariland SLS Military Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green Foliage Green, Left Hand 6034-7312-542
The Safariland SLS Military Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green Foliage Green, Left Hand 6034-7312-542 isn’t just another piece of gear; it’s a lifeline for professionals operating in high-stakes environments. This holster, manufactured by Safariland, is designed for left-handed users carrying a Beretta M9/92F or Sig P226, offering both security and rapid access thanks to its SLS (Self Locking System) rotating hood. The foliage green STX finish adds a layer of camouflage, making it ideal for tactical scenarios where blending in is crucial.
For years, I’ve relied on various holsters, always searching for the perfect balance of retention and speed. I needed a holster that could withstand the rigors of training and potential real-world deployments, while providing a secure and reliable platform for my sidearm. This particular model caught my eye because of Safariland’s reputation for quality and the proven effectiveness of their SLS system.
Upon unboxing, the holster feels robust and well-constructed. The SafariLaminate material is noticeably durable, promising resistance to abrasion and impact. The foliage green color is a practical choice for various environments, and the overall design appears streamlined and efficient.
Compared to other tactical holsters I’ve used, such as the Blackhawk! Serpa and the Galco Miami Classic, the Safariland SLS stands out for its multi-layered retention system. While the Serpa offers a quick draw, its single-point retention raised concerns about unauthorized access, and the Galco, being a shoulder holster, didn’t provide the same level of security or tactical advantage in dynamic situations. Ultimately, I chose the Safariland SLS for its proven track record and superior retention mechanism.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was eager to test its performance in the field, hopeful that it would live up to its reputation as a reliable and secure tactical holster.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland SLS Military Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green Foliage Green, Left Hand 6034-7312-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was a local shooting range, simulating various tactical scenarios involving movement, drawing, and re-holstering. I tested the Safariland SLS Military Tactical Holster during force-on-force drills, as well as standard target practice. The holster was subjected to different weather conditions, including a particularly humid day and a light rain shower.
The holster performed admirably in both wet and dry conditions, providing a secure grip on the firearm and consistent draw. It did take some time to get used to the SLS system, but after a few hours of practice, the draw became fluid and intuitive. My initial hesitation regarding the rotating hood quickly dissipated as I realized its effectiveness in preventing unauthorized access and providing a smooth, controlled draw.
After my first use, I noticed a slight bit of wear on the inside of the holster where the gun would sit. This initially caused some concern, but has not affected the use of the holster.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland SLS Military Tactical Holster has proven to be incredibly durable and reliable. I have subjected the holster to rigorous training exercises, including rappelling, obstacle courses, and simulated urban environments. The holster has shown no signs of significant wear or degradation.
The SafariLaminate construction has held up remarkably well, resisting scratches and abrasions from constant contact with gear and equipment. The SLS system continues to function flawlessly, providing secure retention and a consistent draw stroke. Maintaining the holster is straightforward, requiring only occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and lubrication of the moving parts.
Compared to previous holsters I’ve used, the Safariland SLS surpasses them in terms of durability, security, and overall performance. It inspires confidence in its ability to withstand the rigors of demanding operational environments. This holster is much more reliable than the cheaper, polymer holsters I used previously.
