First Thoughts on the Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber
The Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber promises essential firearm maintenance in a compact, American-made package. At $14.99, it aims to provide everything needed for a breech-to-muzzle cleaning of your .45 caliber pistol. The included T-handle/driver with interchangeable bits is a particularly interesting feature.
What drew me to this kit was the need for a dedicated .45 caliber cleaning solution that I could easily stash in my range bag. I was tired of using universal kits that always seemed to be missing the right size brush or jag. The promise of American-made quality at an affordable price was also a significant factor.
Upon unboxing, the Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber feels solid, though the plastic components are what you’d expect at this price point. The multi-tool handle is a clever design and feels relatively sturdy. It’s definitely more compact than carrying a separate T-handle and screwdriver.
Compared to other inexpensive kits I’ve used, like the generic ones you find at big box stores, this kit seems to have a slightly better build quality. I was particularly eyeing the Hoppe’s .45 Caliber Cleaning Kit, but the Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber‘s price point and the multi-tool feature ultimately swayed me. I also briefly considered a more comprehensive Otis Technology kit, but that would be overkill for my needs and budget.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber appeared to be a well-thought-out, budget-friendly option. Hopefully, my initial impression holds true during testing.
Real-World Testing: Putting Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber at my local indoor shooting range immediately after a session with my 1911. The range environment provided a controlled setting to evaluate its cleaning effectiveness and ease of use. I was cleaning after firing about 200 rounds of .45 ACP ammunition.
The kit performed well in this controlled environment. The brush and jag fit the bore of my 1911 perfectly. They effectively removed carbon fouling and lead residue. The T-handle/driver provided a comfortable grip, even with slightly oily hands.
It did take a few minutes to get used to the bit swapping mechanism of the handle. However, once I figured it out, it was quite convenient. There were no major issues during this first cleaning session, and my pistol was noticeably cleaner afterward.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use (approximately once a week after range trips), the Patriot Pistol Cleaning Kit .45 Caliber has held up surprisingly well. There is no significant wear and tear on the brushes or jag. The multi-tool handle is still functioning as intended.
The durability is decent, considering the price. The bristles on the brush show minimal signs of wear. The threads on the jag are still sharp and haven’t stripped.
Maintenance is straightforward. I simply clean the brush and jag with solvent after each use and wipe down the handle. The kit itself is easy to store and keeps all the components organized in my range bag. It does outperform the cheap, no-name kits I’ve used in the past, offering a more reliable and effective cleaning experience.
