Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit Review

First Thoughts on the Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit

Maintaining firearms is paramount for safety, accuracy, and longevity. That’s why I was on the hunt for a universal cleaning kit that wouldn’t break the bank. I settled on the Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit from DAC Technologies hoping it would offer a comprehensive and affordable solution.

Years in the field have taught me that a well-maintained firearm is a reliable one. My decision stemmed from the need for a single kit capable of handling various calibers, eliminating the clutter of multiple cleaning sets. The promise of a comprehensive set within a classic wooden box piqued my interest.

Upon unboxing, I was initially pleased with the presentation. The wooden box felt sturdy, and the flocked tray neatly organized the components. It was a step up from the typical plastic cases often found in similar kits.

Compared to standalone bore brushes and the Hoppe’s cleaning kits I’ve used previously, the Gunmaster kit aimed for breadth rather than specialized depth. I chose it because of the promise of “universal” application. It seemed a more efficient and budget-friendly alternative to buying individual tools.

My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The kit looked complete and well-organized, but the low price point left me wondering about the quality of materials and overall durability. Was this a genuine bargain or just a collection of cheap tools in a fancy box?

Real-World Testing: Putting Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit at my local shooting range after a long session with my .22LR rifle and 9mm pistol. It was the perfect opportunity to see if this “universal” kit could handle the grime and residue from different firearms.

I cleaned my .22LR rifle first, and the appropriate sized brush worked well. The brass rod sections screwed together easily enough, though I was careful not to over-tighten them. Carbon fouling came off the bore adequately.

Using the kit on my 9mm pistol was similar. The brushes and jags fit the bore well, and the patches did their job of wicking away solvent and grime. The kit performed acceptably, but required some elbow grease.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit has held up reasonably well, but its limitations have become clearer. The brass rods show some signs of bending, especially the thinner sections.

The wire brushes, while numerous, are showing signs of wear. Some bristles have already begun to flatten and break off after only a few uses. The wooden box is holding up fine.

Cleaning the components is simple; I usually wipe them down with a clean cloth and a bit of solvent. It is paramount to dry and lightly oil the rods to prevent rust. Compared to higher-end kits with coated rods, the Gunmaster requires more diligent care to prevent corrosion.

Breaking Down the Features of Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit

Specifications

• The Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit features two sets of solid brass rods. One set is for small bore rifles/pistols.
• The second set of rods is for .30 caliber and larger bore firearms. This allows for adaptability across different firearm sizes.
• The kit includes 10 wire brushes, ranging from .17 caliber through 12 gauge. This offers a wide range of cleaning capabilities.
• Six wool mops, covering .17 caliber to 12 gauge, are included for applying solvents. The mops help ensure thorough cleaning.
• Six spear-pointed jags facilitate patch application for effective bore cleaning. Jags ensure proper patch contact for optimal grime removal.
• Two slotted patch holders accommodate various patch sizes. This adapts to different firearm needs.
• Adapters are included for brushes and accessories to ensure compatibility. The cleaning rod handle is designed for a comfortable grip.
• The kit also contains 50 cleaning patches for immediate use. These patches are a consumable, so replacements will be needed.
• Everything is housed in a wooden box with a custom-fitted flocked tray. The wooden box provides a classic, organized storage solution.

Performance & Functionality

The Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit performs adequately for basic firearm cleaning. Its multi-caliber versatility is useful, though specialized kits offer better performance for specific firearms.

The brushes and mops function as expected, but the quality is not top-tier. The brass rods, while functional, exhibit some flex. They could potentially damage the bore if not used carefully.

The kit meets basic expectations for a budget-friendly cleaning solution. However, serious shooters might want to consider a more robust and specialized cleaning system.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality is acceptable for the price. The wooden box adds a touch of class.

The components are lightweight and easy to handle, but the brass rods feel somewhat flimsy. The handle provides a decent grip.

There’s no significant learning curve. The kit is straightforward and easy to use.

Durability & Maintenance

The Gunmaster DAC 27 Piece Deluxe Universal Gun Cleaning Kit is not designed for heavy-duty use. Proper maintenance, like cleaning and oiling the rods, is crucial to prolong its lifespan.

Replacement brushes and mops will likely be needed sooner rather than later, given the rate of wear. The wooden box should last a long time.

Accessories and Customization Options

The kit comes with a basic set of accessories, including brushes, mops, jags, and patch holders. The adapters allow for some degree of customization with accessories from other brands, provided they fit the standard thread sizes.

There are no specific customization options for the box itself. Aftermarket cleaning solutions will be needed to complement the kit’s tools.
