The BRO CARNIVORE-450B-CU16-BLK 450BM 16 SPEC15 UPPER is not just another AR-15 upper; it’s a purpose-built tool designed to deliver serious stopping power in a lightweight, maneuverable package. Chambered in the potent .450 Bushmaster cartridge, this upper promises to transform your AR-15 into a formidable hunting rifle or a close-quarters defensive weapon. It aims to bridge the gap between AR-15 ergonomics and big-bore performance.
Having spent years working with AR platforms, I’ve always been intrigued by the .450 Bushmaster. I was looking for an upper receiver that would allow me to ethically and effectively harvest deer and other large game in areas where longer shots are less common, and brush and dense foliage demand a shorter, more wieldy rifle. The promise of AR-15 familiarity combined with the .450 Bushmaster’s ballistic punch made the BRO CARNIVORE-450B-CU16-BLK 450BM 16 SPEC15 UPPER a very appealing option.
The upper arrived well-packaged. My initial impression was positive; the finish was clean and even, with a no-nonsense, tactical aesthetic. The weight felt manageable, suggesting good balance when paired with a compatible lower.
I considered the Bear Creek Arsenal .450 Bushmaster upper and the Palmetto State Armory .450 Bushmaster upper. Ultimately, I opted for the BRO CARNIVORE-450B-CU16-BLK 450BM 16 SPEC15 UPPER based on the reputation of BRO for quality components and its promise of consistent accuracy, which is paramount for ethical hunting. First Use Experience
My first experience with the BRO CARNIVORE-450B-CU16-BLK 450BM 16 SPEC15 UPPER was at my local shooting range, zeroing the optic and getting a feel for the recoil. The recoil was definitely more pronounced than with a standard .223/5.56 AR, but it was manageable and predictable, more of a stout push than a sharp jab. I found it surprisingly comfortable to shoot after the first few rounds. There were no malfunctions or feeding issues during the first 50 rounds, which is always a good sign.
