Let’s Dive into Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits
Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits promise an easier and more effective way to fish with artificial squid. Marketed by Fishbites as a convenient and durable alternative to natural squid, these pre-cut strips are designed to stay on the hook longer, even when targeted by those pesky bait thieves that plague saltwater anglers. It’s a bold claim, and as a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist with over a decade of fishing experience, I was eager to put them to the test.
I’ve always struggled with the mess and rapid degradation of natural squid bait. Seeking a cleaner, longer-lasting alternative that could withstand the relentless pecking of smaller fish, I stumbled upon these. The promise of easy application and extended durability immediately piqued my interest.
Upon receiving the Fishbites E-Z Squid, I was initially struck by the packaging – simple and straightforward. The bait strips themselves felt somewhat rubbery, with a noticeable mesh embedded within. My initial thought was whether this mesh would actually make the bait stay on the hook longer.
Compared to other artificial squid baits, such as Berkley Gulp! or traditional soft plastic lures, the Fishbites stand out due to their unique cloth binder and pre-cut strip design. I chose the Fishbites E-Z Squid because of the “Longer Lasting” claim, hoping to avoid the constant re-baiting that plagues many saltwater fishing trips. My initial feeling was cautiously optimistic – the design seemed practical, but the real test would be in the water.
Real-World Testing: Putting Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits took place on a recent inshore fishing trip off the coast of North Carolina. I targeted speckled trout and flounder in the marshes, notorious for their bait-stealing pinfish. I fished in moderately choppy conditions with a strong outgoing tide.
The bait was remarkably easy to use; just cut a strip to the desired length with my Leatherman, hook it, and cast. The Fishbites held up surprisingly well to the current and the initial onslaught of nibbling fish. However, I noticed that after about an hour of soaking, the edges began to fray slightly.
After the first outing, I was pleasantly surprised by the bait’s durability. I had only lost one strip of Fishbites compared to losing several pieces of natural squid or other artificial baits.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of using the Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits, I’ve gained a solid understanding of their performance. They definitely hold up longer than natural squid, but the “longer lasting” claim should be tempered with realistic expectations. The cloth binder does help, but repeated casting and fish strikes will eventually degrade the bait.
The Fishbites show minimal wear and tear beyond the fraying of edges I initially observed. Cleaning is incredibly simple; just rinse them off with saltwater, and they’re ready for the next trip. Compared to my previous experiences with natural squid, which required constant replacement and left a lingering odor, the Fishbites are a significant improvement in terms of convenience and cleanliness.
Breaking Down the Features of Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits
Specifications
- The Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits are manufactured by Fishbites. These are designed to mimic squid and entice saltwater species.
- Each package contains one strip of bait, approximately 12 inches in length and 1/2 inch in width. This strip is designed for easy cutting and customization.
- The Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits are designed for saltwater use. The cloth binder embedded in the middle provides enhanced durability.

Performance & Functionality
The Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits perform admirably in their intended role. They effectively attract a variety of saltwater species, and their primary strength lies in their convenience and extended durability compared to natural squid. However, they are not indestructible, and repeated abuse will eventually lead to degradation.
One minor weakness is that the bait’s scent, while effective, may not be as potent as freshly cut natural squid. This can be compensated for by using scent attractants. The bait meets expectations in terms of ease of use and extended durability, offering a solid alternative to traditional bait options.
Design & Ergonomics
The build quality is decent, with the rubbery material feeling sturdy enough to withstand moderate abuse. The embedded cloth binder is a clever design element. The bait’s light weight is a plus, as it doesn’t significantly impact casting distance.
There is virtually no learning curve. Anyone familiar with using artificial baits can easily adapt to the Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits.
Durability & Maintenance
The Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits are designed to last for several fishing trips, depending on the conditions and frequency of use. I estimate that a single strip can last for up to 3-4 trips with moderate use.
Maintenance is minimal. A simple rinse with saltwater after each use is all that’s required to keep the bait in good condition.

The Fishbites E-Z Squid Longer Lasting Soft Baits don’t require any specific accessories. However, they can be used in conjunction with various hooks, jigs, and skirts to create different presentations.
