As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I was drawn to the Vector X by its reputation for exceptional performance and the promise of seamlessly integrating advanced ballistics calculations into a user-friendly optic. My primary goal was to find a rangefinding binocular that not only provided accurate distance measurements but also delivered immediate firing solutions in the field, eliminating the need for cumbersome external devices.
Upon unboxing the Vector X, the first thing that struck me was its solid build quality and premium feel. The magnesium housing, coated with high-quality rubber armoring, exudes durability and provides a secure, non-slip grip. Its weight feels substantial, lending confidence in its robustness, yet it remains manageable for extended periods of use.
Compared to my previous Leica Geovid HD-B 3000 and the Sig Sauer Kilo3000BDX, the VECTRONIX SHOOTING SOLUTIONS Vector X 42 MSR-SMR 12x42mm Rangefinding Binocular distinguishes itself with its onboard Applied Ballistics Elite solver and the Active-Matrix OLED display. These features promise to streamline the long-range shooting process, offering significant advantages over models that require external ballistic apps. Initially, I was extremely excited to put its capabilities to the test, envisioning a significant improvement in my efficiency and accuracy during both hunting and competitive shooting scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting VECTRONIX SHOOTING SOLUTIONS Vector X 42 MSR-SMR 12x42mm Rangefinding Binocular to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing of the VECTRONIX SHOOTING SOLUTIONS Vector X 42 MSR-SMR 12x42mm Rangefinding Binocular took place at a local shooting range, specifically designed for long-range precision shooting. I tested its performance in varied weather conditions, including bright sunlight and overcast skies, to evaluate its optical clarity and rangefinding capabilities. The conditions provided a good test of its ranging capabilities on different target types.
The Vector X performed admirably in both conditions, delivering consistently accurate range measurements out to 2000 yards. The D-Pad control was easy to navigate, and the Active-Matrix OLED display provided crisp, clear firing solutions. Surprisingly, however, I found myself spending more time initially familiarizing myself with the menu options than anticipated, but this became more intuitive with practice.

After several months of consistent use in various environments, including hunting trips in the mountains and tactical training exercises in arid regions, the VECTRONIX SHOOTING SOLUTIONS Vector X 42 MSR-SMR 12x42mm Rangefinding Binocular has proven to be remarkably durable. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, despite exposure to harsh weather conditions and occasional bumps. The rugged design stands up to abuse.
Cleaning and maintaining the Vector X is straightforward. The rubber armoring is easy to wipe down, and the lenses can be cleaned with a standard lens cleaning kit. Compared to my previous experiences with other rangefinding binoculars, the Vector X‘s integrated ballistics solver has significantly improved my first-round hit probability at extended ranges.
