Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 Review

First Impressions of Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512

For years, I’ve been immersed in the world of archery and tactical gear, always seeking equipment that blends performance with affordability. That’s why the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 immediately caught my eye. It promised a ready-to-hunt setup without breaking the bank, a claim I was eager to verify.

My hunting buddies had been on me to upgrade from my old compound bow to something more modern and forgiving. I needed a bow that could handle the varied terrains of Colorado, from high-altitude elk hunts to whitetail deer pursuits in the foothills. The allure of the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 was its promise of adjustability and a complete package.

Unboxing the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 revealed a well-organized kit. The bow itself felt surprisingly solid, and the included accessories appeared functional and ready for action. Compared to a higher-end Mathews or Hoyt bow, the finish wasn’t as refined, but the overall impression was positive, especially considering the price point.

I had been considering the Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Pro and the PSE Stinger Max. Ultimately, I chose the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 due to Bear Archery‘s reputation for reliable single-cam bows and the comprehensive RTH package. The promise of a smooth draw cycle and easy adjustability sealed the deal. My initial reaction was excitement mixed with cautious optimism; I was eager to see how it performed in the field.

Real-World Testing: Putting Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 to the Test

First Use Experience

My first test of the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 took place at my local archery range, followed by a weekend scouting trip in the mountains. The range provided a controlled environment to dial in the sight and get a feel for the bow’s draw cycle. The mountain trip was where I tested it for portability and handling in realistic hunting conditions.

The Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 performed admirably, even in the somewhat dusty conditions of the range. The draw cycle felt noticeably smoother than my old bow, and the included sight, though basic, was easy to adjust. I did notice the stabilizer felt a bit cheap and might warrant an upgrade down the road.

Initially, I struggled slightly with the grip angle, as it was different from what I was accustomed to. However, after about an hour of practice, I adapted and began achieving consistent groupings. There were no major issues, but the peep sight did need to be readjusted after the first few shots, which is common.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 has proven to be a reliable and capable bow. I’ve used it for target practice, 3D archery, and even took it on a week-long hunting trip. So far, it’s held up well.

There are minor signs of wear on the grip, and the string shows slight fraying, but nothing beyond what’s expected with regular use. I wipe down the bow after each use and apply string wax regularly to prolong its life. This is a standard process with any bow.

Compared to my old PSE, the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 offers a more forgiving shot and a smoother draw cycle. While not on par with high-end bows in terms of vibration dampening and overall refinement, it significantly outperforms its price point.

Breaking Down the Features of Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512

Specifications

The Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 boasts several key specifications that contribute to its performance and user experience. The adjustable draw length (23.5″-30.5″) and draw weight (45-60 lbs or 55-70 lbs) make it suitable for archers of various sizes and strengths. This is especially important for growing teenagers or hunters who prefer a lighter draw weight for extended practice.

The 80 percent let-off is crucial for holding at full draw for longer periods, reducing fatigue during hunts. The 30″ axle-to-axle length provides a good balance of stability and maneuverability in tight hunting scenarios, while the 6.75″ brace height offers forgiveness on less-than-perfect shots. The ability to achieve speeds of up to 320 feet per second is respectable for a bow in this price range.

Performance & Functionality

The Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 performs its job as a hunting bow effectively, delivering consistent accuracy and reliable power. The single-cam system contributes to a smooth and predictable draw cycle, making it easier to hold steady at full draw. However, the included accessories are functional but not top-of-the-line; upgrading the stabilizer and rest could enhance performance.

The bow’s strengths lie in its adjustability, forgiving nature, and affordability. Its weakness is the slightly less refined feel compared to higher-end bows. It meets expectations for a mid-range RTH package, offering a solid foundation for both beginners and experienced archers.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality is decent for the price, with a sturdy riser and limbs. The weight is manageable, making it comfortable to carry on long hunts. The grip is relatively comfortable, though some may prefer an aftermarket option for improved ergonomics.

The bow is user-friendly, with easy-to-adjust draw length and weight settings. There’s a slight learning curve for beginners, but the included manual is helpful. Overall, the design is functional and practical.

Durability & Maintenance

With proper care, the Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 should last for many seasons. Regular string waxing, bolt checks, and cleaning are essential. The bow is relatively easy to maintain, with readily available replacement parts.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Bear Archery Species XT RTH Bow Package 1502512 includes an IMS V-Biscuit rest, Picatinny-mounted 4-pin sight, 5-arrow quiver, stabilizer, peep sight, and wrist sling. The Picatinny rail mounting system allows for easy customization with aftermarket sights and rests. The bow is also compatible with standard stabilizers and quivers from other brands.
