Let’s Dive into Rolling Thunder Game GC001CF Big Heavy Short Reed Attracts Canada Goose Fro

The Rolling Thunder Game GC001CF Big Heavy Short Reed Attracts Canada Goose Fro is a specialized game call designed for goose hunters. Made by Rolling Thunder Game, this call promises to deliver the range, speed, and versatility needed to fool even the wariest Canada geese, making it a staple for guides and seasoned hunters alike. Its larger bore, longer insert, and redesigned guts are engineered to produce deeper tones and optimized note sequences, which is specifically useful when chasing both lessers and greaters.

I’ve been chasing geese for over a decade, and I was looking for a call that could cut through the wind and reach those distant flocks while maintaining a realistic, alluring sound. I needed something that wouldn’t require constant tuning and would perform consistently in various weather conditions.

The call arrived in simple but protective packaging. My first impression was that the “Big Heavy” moniker was accurate; it has a substantial feel in the hand, suggesting durability. The acrylic construction felt smooth and well-finished, and I appreciated the frost color.

Compared to my older Olt call and a newer polycarbonate model from another brand, the Rolling Thunder call immediately felt different. The bore was noticeably wider, and the insert felt longer, hinting at the deeper tones promised in the description. My initial reaction was excitement, hoping this call would finally bridge the gap between my high expectations and real-world results.

Real-World Testing: Putting Rolling Thunder Game GC001CF Big Heavy Short Reed Attracts Canada Goose Fro to the Test

First Use Experience

My first field test took place on a frigid morning along the Eastern Shore of Maryland, a notorious goose hunting hotspot. The wind was howling off the bay, and the temperature hovered just above freezing; ideal conditions to test the call’s ability to cut through the noise and attract distant birds. Setting up in a layout blind amongst the decoys, I began experimenting with different calling sequences.

Even in the gusty wind, the call projected surprisingly well, creating deep, resonant moans that immediately caught the attention of a small flock about a mile out. The Rolling Thunder Game call allowed for easy modulation, transitioning from low clucks to higher-pitched honks with minimal effort. The geese responded favorably, breaking from their flight path and circling our spread, proving the effectiveness of the call even in challenging conditions. There were no noticeable performance issues during the first use.

Extended Use & Reliability

After a full season of use, the Rolling Thunder Game GC001CF Big Heavy Short Reed Attracts Canada Goose Fro has become a permanent fixture in my hunting bag. The acrylic material has held up well, with no signs of cracking or significant wear, despite being exposed to rain, snow, and mud. Cleaning the call is simple; a quick rinse with water and a wipe-down keep it performing optimally.

Compared to my previous calls, the Rolling Thunder consistently produces a richer, more realistic sound, especially when targeting larger Canada geese. It has noticeably increased my success rate in attracting geese from longer distances, and that alone makes it a worthwhile investment. The call’s tone has remained consistent throughout the season, requiring no adjustments or fine-tuning.
