First Impressions of WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL
The WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL is a diaphragm call designed for serious turkey hunters, promising realistic sounds in a compact package. From Woodhaven Custom Calls, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the turkey hunting world, this call piqued my interest because of its touted ability to produce crisp, clear yelps, clucks, and purrs. As a seasoned hunter with over a decade spent chasing gobblers, I’m always on the lookout for calls that offer both versatility and consistency, especially when pressured birds demand subtle and nuanced calling.
I needed a versatile call that could handle soft calling sequences for close-range encounters, but also had the volume to reach out on windy days. My aging diaphragm calls were losing their edge, and I was looking for something new that could add to my repertoire.
Upon receiving the WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL, my initial impression was positive; the call felt lightweight yet sturdy. The tape job appeared clean and the latex seemed to be of good quality.
I generally use Primos and Quaker Boy calls, but I was looking for a different sound profile, hoping the Woodhaven call would offer that. I chose this call over others because of the positive reviews and the Woodhaven reputation for quality. My first impression was cautiously optimistic, eager to see if it lived up to the hype in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL on a mid-season turkey hunt in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania. The weather was typical for spring – cool mornings with the occasional rain shower. I tested its ability to produce a variety of turkey sounds.
The call performed admirably in the damp conditions, maintaining its tone and responsiveness even after being exposed to moisture. I found it relatively easy to learn and manipulate, producing realistic yelps and clucks within a few practice sessions. However, the reed configuration initially felt a little different than what I was accustomed to, requiring a slight adjustment in my calling technique.
After the first use, I didn’t experience any significant issues, but I did note that the tape could potentially start to peel with excessive moisture exposure.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use during multiple turkey hunts and practice sessions, the WOODHAVEN WH341 DAGGER SNG MOUTH CALL has held up remarkably well. I’ve used it in various weather conditions, from dry and windy to damp and cool.
Aside from minor wear on the tape, the call has shown no significant signs of deterioration. Maintaining the call is straightforward; I simply allow it to air dry after use and store it in a cool, dry place. This call outperforms my previous diaphragm calls in terms of sound clarity and consistency, giving me increased confidence in the field.
