First Impressions of Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch
The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch isn’t just another piece of kit; it’s a statement about adaptability and efficiency. From Vertx, a company synonymous with tactical gear ingenuity, this pouch promises to streamline your loadout without sacrificing accessibility or security. It’s designed for professionals and enthusiasts alike, offering multiple retention and attachment options for a truly customized setup.
For years, I’ve struggled with bulky, single-stack pouches that added unnecessary weight and complexity to my belt. I needed a low-profile solution that could accommodate various magazine sizes and attachment methods, without compromising on speed or reliability. The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch seemed to be the answer.
Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the pouch’s clean design and lightweight construction. The absence of external hardware was a welcome change, promising a snag-free experience. The rubberized interior felt grippy, hinting at the secure magazine retention it promised.
Compared to my existing mix-and-match setup of HSGI Sure-Grip and Blade-Tech single pouches, the Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch stood out for its integrated approach. Rather than relying on external bungee cords or flaps, the internal friction system offered a more streamlined, potentially quieter solution. I also considered the Blue Force Gear Ten-Speed Double Pistol Mag Pouch for its ultra-lightweight design but chose the Vertx for its wider compatibility and adjustable retention.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. While the design was appealing, I was eager to see how it performed under real-world conditions. I couldn’t wait to put it through its paces at the range and during some upcoming force-on-force training.
Real-World Testing: Putting Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch during a full day at an outdoor shooting range, followed by an evening of low-light drills. It was attached to a Vertx Raze belt, utilizing the MOLLE compatible straps. The temperature fluctuated between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with moderate humidity and occasional gusts of wind, giving me a good sense of its performance in varied conditions.
The pouch performed admirably. Magazine changes were smooth and consistent, even with sweaty hands. The magazines were secure, even during dynamic movement.
I was initially concerned about the lack of adjustable retention, but the rubberized interior gripped the magazines firmly without making them difficult to draw. There were no accidental magazine ejections, even during rapid movement and transitions.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, the Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch has become a staple in my loadout. There are no signs of wear and tear. The stitching remains intact and the rubberized interior still provides excellent grip.
Cleaning the pouch is simple. A quick wipe with a damp cloth removes any dirt or debris. The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch requires virtually no maintenance.
Having used various mag pouches over the years, I can confidently say the Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch has outperformed most of them. The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch is faster and more versatile than traditional flap pouches, and more secure than many open-top designs.

Performance & Functionality
The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch excels at its primary function: securely holding and readily deploying pistol magazines. Its rubberized interior grips magazines firmly. This eliminates the need for excessive external tension.
It is compatible with a wide range of pistol magazine sizes, further enhancing its versatility. However, very small magazines, like those from a Sig P238, might require an additional retention device, such as a small piece of foam, to ensure a snug fit. The pouch’s open-top design allows for rapid access to magazines.
The pouch meets and, in some ways, exceeds expectations. The retention system strikes a good balance between security and accessibility. However, those used to adjustable retention might find the lack of adjustment a minor drawback.

The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch features a streamlined, minimalist design that prioritizes functionality. The Velcro construction is lightweight. This makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods.
The absence of external hardware contributes to its low profile, minimizing snagging and interference with other gear. There’s virtually no learning curve. The pouch is intuitive and easy to use.
Durability & Maintenance
The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch appears to be built to last. The stitching is reinforced in high-stress areas. The Velcro material is resistant to abrasions and tears.
Maintenance is minimal. A quick wipe with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. The pouch is essentially maintenance-free.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Vertx VTAC Double Pistol MAG Pouch doesn’t come with any included accessories. The multiple attachment options (Belt/MOLLE/VELCRO Brand ONE-WRAP) allow for a high degree of customization.
It is compatible with most standard MOLLE platforms. The Velcro ONE-WRAP provides additional versatility for attaching to belts or other Velcro–compatible surfaces. Third-party magazine retention inserts, such as those from Esstac, could potentially be used to further customize retention, although this wasn’t tested in this review.
