First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6005 during a three-day tactical training course focused on close-quarters combat and weapon manipulation. The course involved a lot of movement, including running, crawling, and transitioning between standing and kneeling positions, so it was a great chance to really stress-test the holster and harness.
The Safariland 6005 performed admirably in all conditions. Despite the intense activity and exposure to dirt, dust, and even some light rain, the SLS retention system remained secure and reliable. Drawing the firearm was intuitive and consistent, and I quickly developed a smooth and efficient draw stroke.
I did need a short period to adjust the leg harness to fit comfortably and securely, but once dialed in, it felt natural. There were no unexpected issues or failures during the first use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use in various training sessions, range days, and even some outdoor hiking and camping trips, the Safariland 6005 has proven its durability and reliability. There are no signs of significant wear and tear on either the holster body or the leg harness.
Cleaning and maintenance have been simple; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove any dirt or grime. I’ve also occasionally used a silicone-based lubricant on the SLS mechanism to keep it operating smoothly. The STX Foliage Green finish has resisted scratches and scuffs exceptionally well.
Compared to previous belt holsters I’ve used, the Safariland 6005 offers a noticeable improvement in comfort and weight distribution, particularly during extended periods of activity. The leg harness keeps the weight of the firearm off my belt, reducing fatigue and allowing for greater freedom of movement. It definitely outperformed my expectations.
