The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6005-9321-542 is a purpose-built piece of kit from a trusted name in law enforcement and military equipment: Safariland. Designed for left-handed users, this holster offers a secure and accessible platform for carrying a sidearm, specifically tailored for Heckler & Koch USP variants with weapon-mounted lights. Its defining feature is the SLS (Self Locking System) rotating hood, combined with a quick-release leg harness.
As a tactical gear specialist, I’ve always prioritized secure weapon retention and rapid deployment, especially when operating in dynamic environments. I needed a holster solution that could accommodate my left-handed draw, provide level II retention, and integrate seamlessly with my existing tactical loadout. The Safariland 6005 SLS seemed to tick all the boxes, promising both security and accessibility.
My first impression upon unboxing was that this thing is built like a tank. The SAFARILAMINATE construction feels incredibly robust, and the hardware is all heavy-duty. The STX Foliage Green finish provides a low-profile aesthetic that blends well with various camouflage patterns.
I considered a few other drop-leg holsters from Blade-Tech and Blackhawk, but the Safariland‘s reputation for reliability and its specific compatibility with the H&K USP (a platform I’m intimately familiar with) ultimately swayed my decision. I was excited to get this on my kit and see how it performed during drills. I felt impressed and optimistic.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6005-9321-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6005 SLS at an outdoor shooting range during a force-on-force training exercise. The scenario involved navigating a mock urban environment while engaging multiple targets under time pressure. The weather was dry and warm, with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
The holster performed admirably. The SLS system was intuitive to use, allowing for a smooth, single-motion draw stroke once I mastered the initial release. There were no issues with the weapon retention, even during dynamic movements and simulated struggles.
I did notice a slight learning curve with the quick-release buckles on the leg harness. After a few hours, I was able to actuate them with relative ease.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use in various training scenarios and field exercises, the Safariland 6005 SLS has proven to be exceptionally durable. There are some minor scuff marks on the STX finish, but the holster shows no signs of structural wear or degradation. The SAFARILAMINATE material has held up incredibly well to abrasion and impact.
Maintenance is straightforward. I typically wipe down the holster with a damp cloth after each use to remove dirt and grime. The holster system maintains its shape and integrity.
Compared to other nylon drop-leg holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland 6005 SLS offers a far superior level of weapon retention and durability. This is my favorite holster of this type, and I am very happy with it.
