As a left-handed shooter in the tactical gear world, finding reliable and high-quality equipment can sometimes be a challenge. I specifically needed a holster that offered both secure retention and a comfortable, stable carry system for my sidearm during training exercises and potential real-world applications. The Safariland 6005 promised to deliver on both fronts, and I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.

I chose the Safariland 6005 because I needed a holster with a proven track record in law enforcement and military applications, offering a higher level of security and a more reliable draw stroke than other options. Its SLS system was a key differentiator.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The build quality and reputation were promising. I was eager to test its draw speed, retention capabilities, and overall comfort during extended use.

I first tested the Safariland 6005 at an outdoor shooting range during a tactical training session. The weather was hot and humid, creating a challenging environment for gear performance. The primary focus was practicing dynamic movement drills and rapid target engagement.
The holster performed admirably in the sweaty conditions. The SLS rotating hood system provided a secure hold on the firearm while allowing for a surprisingly smooth and natural draw. The only minor issue I encountered initially was adjusting the leg straps for optimal comfort and stability. Fine-tuning the fit took some experimentation to prevent the holster from shifting during movement.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use during training exercises, the Safariland 6005 has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of equipment. There are minimal signs of wear and tear on the SAFARILAMINATE construction, despite being subjected to rigorous use in various environments. The holster has maintained its shape and structural integrity, even after being exposed to rain, mud, and dust.
Cleaning the Safariland 6005 is relatively simple. Wiping down the STX finish with a damp cloth and mild detergent is sufficient to remove dirt and grime. I also periodically lubricate the SLS mechanism with a silicone-based lubricant to ensure smooth operation.
Compared to other holsters I’ve used, the Safariland 6005 significantly outperforms them in terms of retention, stability, and overall durability.
