Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 is more than just a holster; it’s a vital piece of kit designed for professionals who demand speed, security, and reliability. Safariland has long been a trusted name in law enforcement and military circles, and this holster is a testament to their commitment to quality. Featuring the Self Locking System (SLS) and constructed from durable SAFARILAMINATE, it’s built to withstand the rigors of tactical operations.
My search for a new holster stemmed from a need for improved retention and a more streamlined draw. My previous holster, while functional, lacked the positive retention necessary for dynamic movement and close-quarters situations. I needed something that offered both security and ease of access, especially as a left-handed shooter.
Unboxing the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542, my initial impression was one of robust quality. The STX Foliage Green finish provided a tactical aesthetic without being overly flashy, blending seamlessly with my gear. The holster felt solid, well-constructed, and ready for serious use.
Compared to a Blackhawk Serpa and a generic nylon tactical holster I’ve used in the past, the Safariland offered a significant upgrade in both retention and build quality. The Serpa, while fast, lacked the adjustability and security I needed, and the nylon holster simply wasn’t durable enough for demanding environments. I chose the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 for its proven track record, superior retention system, and reputation for lasting durability.
My first impression was one of excitement tempered with a bit of intimidation. The SLS system seemed complex at first, but I was eager to learn how to use it effectively. Overall, I was confident that this holster would meet my needs and provide a secure and reliable platform for my sidearm.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at a local shooting range, followed by some force-on-force training exercises in a controlled environment. I specifically focused on drawing under stress, re-holstering quickly, and maintaining weapon security during movement. The holster performed admirably, even in the high-pressure situations I simulated.
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 maintained excellent functionality in both wet and dusty conditions. During a simulated rain scenario, the holster retained its grip, and the SLS system remained easy to manipulate even with wet hands. Similarly, in a dusty environment, the holster’s internal design prevented excessive debris buildup, ensuring a smooth draw every time.
There was a slight learning curve with the SLS system, requiring some practice to master the proper thumb placement and rotation for a smooth draw. After about an hour of dry-fire practice, I felt comfortable and confident with the system. I found that the SLS system, once mastered, offered a much faster and more secure draw than my previous holsters.
The only minor issue I encountered during my initial testing was the stiffness of the leg straps. They required some adjustment to achieve a comfortable and secure fit. However, once properly adjusted, they remained in place throughout the testing session and did not impede my movement.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 has proven to be exceptionally durable and reliable. I have used it in a variety of training scenarios, including close-quarters combat simulations, tactical movement drills, and extended range sessions. It has consistently performed without fail.
The holster shows minimal signs of wear and tear, even after exposure to harsh conditions and rigorous use. The SAFARILAMINATE construction has held up exceptionally well, resisting scratches and abrasions. The SLS system continues to function smoothly and reliably, providing consistent retention and a fast, efficient draw.
Maintenance is straightforward. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and debris. I occasionally apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the SLS mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
Compared to my previous holsters, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-56-542 far exceeds them in terms of durability, retention, and overall performance. It’s a significant upgrade that has enhanced my confidence and effectiveness in tactical situations. The investment is worth it for the peace of mind and reliability it provides.
