Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6004-297-122
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6004-297-122 is a duty-grade holster designed for left-handed users needing secure and reliable weapon retention. Manufactured by Safariland, this holster features the Self Locking System (SLS) rotating hood, offering a smooth draw while significantly reducing the risk of weapon takeaways.
As a tactical gear specialist, I needed a holster that could withstand the rigors of field use and provide both security and quick access for my H&K P2000. I unboxed the Safariland 6004 SLS with high expectations, given Safariland’s reputation; the STX Tactical Black finish looked professional and the overall construction felt robust.
Compared to the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 and the Bianchi UM84R, I chose the Safariland 6004 SLS for its proven SLS retention system and compatibility with the H&K P2000, which the others didn’t offer in a dedicated left-handed configuration. My initial impression was one of confidence; this holster felt like it was built to last and perform under pressure.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6004-297-122 to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster at an outdoor shooting range and during force-on-force training scenarios in a simulated urban environment. The holster performed admirably in both settings, offering secure weapon retention during dynamic movements and a relatively smooth draw after practice.
Even in wet conditions caused by unexpected rain, the SLS mechanism remained reliable, and the STX Tactical finish provided a surprisingly good grip. Getting accustomed to the SLS hood rotation took some time, but after a few hours of dry-fire drills, it became second nature.
Initially, I noticed the double leg straps felt a bit constricting during prolonged wear, but adjusting the straps alleviated the issue, and I achieved a more comfortable fit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6004 SLS has proven to be remarkably durable. Despite exposure to mud, dust, and frequent handling, there are minimal signs of wear and tear on the STX Tactical finish.
Cleaning the holster is straightforward, usually requiring only a damp cloth to wipe away debris and occasional lubrication of the SLS mechanism with silicone-based lubricant. Comparing it to cheaper holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland consistently outperforms them in terms of retention, durability, and overall reliability.
