Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster is a name synonymous with duty and tactical readiness. More specifically, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541 offers a blend of rugged durability and rapid deployment capability, specifically tailored for right-handed users carrying a Heckler & Koch USP 45 LEM with a Surefire X200/X300 weapon light. With its signature SLS (Self Locking System) rotating hood, thermal-molded SAFARILAMINATE construction, and a foliage green finish that blends seamlessly into many operational environments, this holster promises both security and performance. This isn’t just a holster; it’s an investment in peace of mind.
As a seasoned operator, I needed a reliable and secure holster system that could withstand the rigors of dynamic training environments. My previous holster lacked the retention necessary for certain maneuvers, creating both a safety hazard and slowing down my draw time. I was seeking a solution that offered both uncompromised weapon retention and a lightning-fast draw.
The arrival of the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541 was met with eager anticipation. From the moment I unboxed it, the solid construction and rugged SAFARILAMINATE material inspired confidence. The STX Foliage Green finish was a welcome departure from the standard black, lending a modern, low-profile aesthetic. The weight felt substantial without being cumbersome, suggesting a durable yet manageable piece of kit.
Compared to other tactical holsters I’ve used, like the Blackhawk! Serpa and the Galco Miami Classic, the Safariland stood out for its robust SLS retention system and its compatibility with a weapon light. While the Serpa offers a rapid draw, its retention mechanism can be prone to accidental releases under stress. The Galco, a shoulder holster, prioritizes concealment over rapid access, making it less suitable for tactical scenarios.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the potential for enhanced weapon retention and draw speed. I was hoping it would be the end of my search. The need to train extensively with it to fully appreciate its capabilities was clear from the outset.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541 to the Test
First Use Experience
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541 was immediately put through its paces at a local shooting range during a dynamic weapons training course. I tested the holster during various drills including drawing from seated and prone positions, simulating stressful scenarios. The course included movement under fire and transitioning between primary and secondary weapons.
The holster performed admirably in diverse weather conditions, from a humid summer afternoon to a slightly drizzly morning. Even with sweaty hands, the SLS system remained reliable, providing a secure grip and a consistent draw stroke. The STX finish proved resistant to dirt and grime, maintaining its tactical appearance.
Initially, the SLS system took some getting used to. It required a deliberate thumb motion to disengage the rotating hood. After a few hours of practice, the draw became fluid and instinctive, proving faster and more secure than my previous holster.
My first surprise was how well the holster accommodated the Heckler & Koch USP 45 LEM with the attached Surefire X200 light. The fit was snug and secure, eliminating any wobble or play. The holster only retains the weapon with the weapon light attached, as designed.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use in various training scenarios, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-1930-541 has proven to be an exceptionally durable and reliable piece of gear.
