The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6004-18021-122 is more than just a holster; it’s a statement. It’s a declaration of readiness, reliability, and a commitment to professional-grade gear. Crafted by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military-grade equipment, this holster is designed for the southpaw operator who demands nothing less than peak performance.
My journey to this specific holster began with a recurring frustration: the limitations of universal holsters. I needed a secure, reliable, and specifically left-handed holster for my Beretta PX4 Storm with a weapon light, something that wouldn’t compromise on retention or draw speed. The Safariland 6004 SLS seemed to be the answer.
Unboxing the Safariland 6004 SLS was a reassuring experience. The immediate impression was one of robust construction and high-quality materials. The STX Tactical Black finish looked durable and professional.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the G-Code SOC Rig, both popular options. However, the Safariland’s renowned SLS (Self Locking System) and specifically molded fit for my weapon light combination ultimately swayed me. The Safariland just seemed more tailored to my exact requirements.
My initial feeling was excitement mixed with a touch of anticipation. This wasn’t just another piece of gear; it felt like an investment in my readiness and proficiency. I was eager to put it through its paces.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6004-18021-122 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the Safariland 6004 SLS was at an outdoor shooting range, running drills with my Beretta PX4 Storm equipped with a TLR-1 weapon light. I wanted to simulate scenarios demanding rapid deployment and secure retention. The weather was dry and sunny, providing optimal conditions for testing.
The holster performed admirably in these conditions. The SLS system proved intuitive after a few practice draws. The draw stroke was smooth and consistent, even with gloved hands.
There were no significant issues on the first use. I did notice a slight learning curve in mastering the SLS release under pressure. With dedicated practice, the draw became fluid.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6004 SLS has proven to be exceptionally reliable. I’ve used it in various training scenarios, including force-on-force simulations and low-light drills. It has also been exposed to moderate rain and dusty conditions.
The holster shows minimal signs of wear and tear. The SAFARILAMINATE construction has proven remarkably resistant to abrasions and scratches. The leg straps have retained their elasticity and the stitching remains intact.
Maintenance is straightforward. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth after each use keeps it clean. The SLS mechanism requires occasional lubrication with a dry lubricant to maintain smooth operation.
The Safariland 6004 SLS has far exceeded my expectations compared to previous universal holsters I’ve used. Its custom fit and secure retention provide a level of confidence I haven’t experienced before. It’s a significant upgrade in both performance and peace of mind.
