First Impressions of Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope
In a market saturated with high-dollar optics boasting features many shooters will never truly utilize, the Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope enters as a refreshing offering. Simmons promises tactical scope performance without breaking the bank, and that immediately piqued my interest. With its included rings and flip-up scope caps, the ProTarget aims for out-of-the-box readiness – a huge plus for those of us who value practicality and time efficiency.
I was looking for an optic to outfit a budget-friendly AR-15 build, intended for recreational target shooting and perhaps some varmint hunting down the line. I wanted something simple, reliable, and, most importantly, affordable. While I’ve used countless high-end scopes in my career, sometimes simplicity and value trump all the bells and whistles.
Upon unboxing, I was pleasantly surprised by the solid feel of the Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope. While not boasting the sleek, refined aesthetics of premium brands, the scope felt robust and well-assembled. The included rings felt sturdy enough for mounting, and the flip-up caps were a nice touch, protecting the lenses from dust and debris.
Compared to something like a Vortex Crossfire II or a Bushnell AR Optics scope, the Simmons ProTarget is clearly targeting a different price bracket. I chose the Simmons over these options specifically because of its simplicity, affordability, and the promise of decent performance without the need for extensive features. The exposed turrets also intrigued me.
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic about the Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope. The price point raised some concerns about optical clarity and durability, but the promise of a functional, budget-friendly tactical optic was definitely exciting. I was eager to see how it would perform on the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing of the Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope took place at my local shooting range. The weather was clear and sunny, providing ideal conditions for evaluating optical clarity. I mounted the scope on my AR-15 and zeroed it at 50 yards.
The exposed turrets made adjustments quick and easy, although the clicks were a bit mushy compared to higher-end scopes. Despite this, I was able to achieve a decent zero within a few shots. The image through the scope was surprisingly bright and clear for a budget optic, and the Mil-Dot reticle provided clear aiming points.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range sessions and a couple of varmint hunting trips, the Simmons ProTarget 4x32mm Rifle Scope has held up surprisingly well. There are some minor scratches on the finish, but the scope remains fully functional. I keep the lenses clean with a lens pen and store the rifle in a padded case to minimize wear and tear.
The scope has maintained its zero through numerous range trips and being bounced around in my truck. While it might not be as rugged as a premium optic, it has proven to be reliable for its intended purpose. It outperforms many of my expectations for a scope in this price range.
