First Impressions of Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness
The Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness immediately promises what every treestand hunter craves: security without the cumbersome bulk. Marketed by Hunter Safety System as their lightest and most flexible harness yet, the promise of a mesh upper body and streamlined webbing hints at a new level of comfort and freedom. This harness aims to provide the essential protection needed for elevated hunting, without sacrificing the agility and range of motion critical for making the shot. At a price of $137.99, it sits comfortably in the mid-range of safety harnesses, making it a potential sweet spot between budget options and premium brands.
My own journey to this harness began with a growing frustration. I’ve spent years in treestands, enduring harnesses that felt more like medieval torture devices than safety equipment. They were hot, restrictive, and generally detracted from the overall hunting experience. I was actively searching for a harness that would prioritize both safety and comfort; something that would allow me to focus on the hunt, rather than constantly adjusting straps or battling overheating.
Unboxing the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness, my initial impression was positive. The mesh upper body felt significantly lighter and more breathable than the heavy canvas or nylon of my previous harnesses. The 1.25-inch webbing appeared robust enough to inspire confidence, while the overall design seemed less bulky and more streamlined.
Compared to the Muddy Safeguard Harness, which I found overly padded and warm, and the cheaper Summit Treestands Pro Safety Harness, which lacked adjustability, the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness seemed to strike a better balance. I chose it because of its reputation for lightweight comfort and the promise of unrestricted movement, something neither of the other harnesses delivered. My first impression was cautiously optimistic; I was excited to see if it lived up to its claims in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness during an early-season bow hunt in the hardwoods of central Pennsylvania. The weather was unseasonably warm, with temperatures hovering in the low 70s, offering a good test of the harness’s breathability. After securing my treestand, I donned the harness and ascended.
The immediate improvement over my old harness was noticeable. The mesh upper body allowed for significantly better airflow, and the lighter webbing felt less restrictive. The harness felt secure and snug, without constricting my movements as I reached for my bow or adjusted my binoculars. I was pleasantly surprised by how little I noticed it during the hunt. There were no immediate issues or surprises; the initial experience was overwhelmingly positive.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use throughout the hunting season, the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness has proven its worth. It has held up exceptionally well, showing no signs of significant wear and tear. The stitching remains strong, and the webbing has retained its integrity.
Maintaining the harness has been incredibly simple. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth after each hunt is all that’s needed to remove dirt and scent attractants. The harness dries quickly, and the mesh upper body doesn’t retain moisture. Compared to my previous experiences with bulky, hard-to-clean harnesses, the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite Harness is a breath of fresh air. It significantly outperforms my older harnesses in terms of both comfort and ease of maintenance.
