The Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 promises to be a lightweight, quiet, and easy-to-use aiming solution for archers, particularly hunters. Marketed as having silent, click-free yardage adjustments and a sleek design, the Fast Eddie aims to satisfy the needs of hardcore hunters. Spot-Hogg has a solid reputation, so I approached this sight with high expectations, hoping for a blend of precision and ruggedness.
I was looking for a sight that could handle the rigors of backcountry bowhunting without adding unnecessary weight or noise to my setup. My old sight, while functional, had become clunky and noisy, making subtle adjustments in the field a risky proposition. The Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 seemed to offer a more streamlined and stealthy solution.
Upon unboxing, the sight impressed me with its solid feel and clean lines. The 6061 aluminum construction felt robust without being overly heavy, and the black finish gave it a tactical aesthetic. The micro-adjustable 2nd and 3rd axis features were immediately apparent, hinting at the fine-tuning capabilities of the sight.
Compared to a similar sight from a competitor like Axcel, or a simpler model from TruGlo, the Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 stood out due to its reputation for ruggedness and the precise micro-adjustments available. I picked this Spot-Hogg because I valued durability and ease of fine-tuning over other features like multiple pin configurations offered by some other brands. My first impression was one of excitement. This sight looked like it could withstand the abuse I typically put my gear through.
Real-World Testing: Putting Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 at my local archery range, setting it up on my Mathews Traverse. I shot at distances ranging from 20 to 60 yards to get a feel for the yardage adjustments and pin visibility. The silent, click-free yardage adjustment knob lived up to its promise, allowing for smooth and precise changes without any noticeable noise.
The performance in various conditions was good; I tested it on a clear day with good visibility. Although I didn’t specifically test it in wet or dusty conditions during this initial range session, I did notice that the sight picture remained clear and crisp. Getting used to the sight was relatively easy, although the micro-adjustments did take some time to dial in perfectly.
After the first use, I noticed the quick-release lock for the yardage knob was incredibly useful. It allowed me to rapidly adjust the sight and lock it into place for consistent shooting. My only minor issue was figuring out the optimal tension for the yardage knob to balance smooth adjustments with preventing accidental movement.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of equipment. I have used it extensively during practice sessions, 3D archery competitions, and deer hunting trips in the Appalachian Mountains. It has seen its fair share of bumps, scrapes, and exposure to the elements.
The durability has been impressive, showing no significant signs of wear and tear despite the abuse. The 6061 aluminum construction has held up well, with no visible bending or cracking. Maintaining the sight has been relatively easy, requiring only occasional cleaning with a soft cloth and a bit of silicone lubricant on the moving parts.
Compared to my previous sight, the Spot-Hogg Fast Eddie PM MRT Sight 1209718 outperforms it in nearly every aspect. The micro-adjustments, silent operation, and robust construction make it a superior choice for serious archers and hunters. I am extremely happy with its performance and would recommend it to others without hesitation.
