The Fiocchi Specialty Shotgun Shells 32 Gauge 1/2oz 2.5in 8 Shot Shotgun Ammunition
32PL18 44% Off arrived, promising a unique experience with a gauge I hadn’t handled extensively in years. Fiocchi is a known name, synonymous with consistent quality and a range of offerings from target loads to specialized hunting rounds. Seeing this 32-gauge option, especially at a 44% discount, immediately piqued my interest.
My shotgun collection is quite diverse, spanning from 12-gauge workhorses to a couple of sub-gauge curiosities. I was on the hunt for a reliable, readily available load for my vintage 32-gauge side-by-side, primarily for sporting clays and the occasional upland bird hunt. Ammunition for these older gauges can sometimes be hard to find, making Fiocchi’s offering particularly appealing.
The shells came neatly packaged, 25 to a box, with a clean, no-frills aesthetic. Handling them, the 2.5-inch length felt appropriate for the gun, and the plastic hull showed no immediate signs of deformation or damage. Compared to some other, lesser-known brands of 32-gauge ammo I’ve used in the past, the Fiocchi shells felt significantly more robust.
I had considered some hand-loading options to offset cost and availability, but the 44% discount made the Fiocchi a more attractive option. I picked these shells over some pricier, boutique brands due to Fiocchi’s reputation for reliability and consistent shot patterns. I was excited to see how these shells performed in my old side-by-side.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The price was right, the brand was reputable, and the shells looked well-made. Time to put them to the test!

First Use Experience
My first outing with the Fiocchi Specialty Shotgun Shells was at my local sporting clays range. I wanted a controlled environment to evaluate their performance before taking them into the field. The weather was dry and mild, perfect for a relaxed afternoon of shooting.
The Fiocchi shells loaded smoothly into my side-by-side, with no noticeable resistance or issues. Firing the first round, I was pleasantly surprised by the manageable recoil. Ejection was clean and consistent, with no hang-ups or failures.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, the Fiocchi Specialty Shotgun Shells have proven to be exceptionally reliable. I’ve put about 200 rounds through my shotgun, and have not encountered a single misfire or failure to eject. The hulls show minimal signs of wear, even after multiple reloads (though I acknowledge this is not recommended by the manufacturer and done only for testing purposes).
The shells have also proven durable in various weather conditions. Even after being exposed to a light rain during an upland bird hunt, the shells fired reliably with no noticeable degradation in performance. This level of consistency has surpassed my expectations, especially considering the discounted price.
Comparing these to previous experiences with other 32-gauge ammunition, the Fiocchi shells have been significantly more consistent in terms of recoil and shot patterns. They are, without a doubt, my new go-to choice for my 32-gauge side-by-side.

- Shot Size: 8. An excellent choice for close-range targets and upland birds.
- Shot Weight: 1/2 oz. Provides a sufficient payload for effective target engagement.
- Number of Rounds: 25 per box. A standard count for shotgun ammunition.

Performance & Functionality
The Fiocchi Specialty Shotgun Shells perform exceptionally well. I have experienced consistent shot patterns and reliable cycling in my 32-gauge side-by-side. The recoil is manageable, even during extended shooting sessions, and the shells consistently break clays at reasonable distances.
One area where these shells truly shine is their consistent ignition. I have yet to experience a misfire, even in slightly damp conditions. I find their performance more than meets my expectations, especially considering the affordable price.
Design & Ergonomics
The design of these shells is straightforward and functional. The plastic hull is durable and provides a reliable seal, preventing moisture from affecting the powder. The crimp is consistently applied, ensuring proper shot containment and consistent patterns.

Durability & Maintenance
The Fiocchi Specialty Shotgun Shells are designed for single use, but the quality of the components suggests they will hold up well under typical storage conditions. The plastic hulls are resistant to cracking and deformation, even after being stored in my range bag for extended periods. I would anticipate a long shelf life if stored properly in a cool, dry place.
Accessories and Customization Options
These are shotgun shells, so customization options are limited. However, you can certainly experiment with different chokes to optimize the shot pattern for various shooting scenarios. Also, shell carriers and other accessories designed for shotgun shells in general would be compatible.
