CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF Review

First Impressions of CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF

The CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF is a striking folding knife from CIVIVI, known for blending quality materials with accessible price points. This particular model boasts a Damascus steel blade, a black stonewash finish, and a handle inlaid with both G10 and carbon fiber, creating a sophisticated look that begs to be handled.

I was in the market for a reliable EDC (Everyday Carry) knife that wasn’t just functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. I wanted a knife that could handle everyday tasks with ease, but also turn heads when I pulled it out.

My initial impression upon unboxing the CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF was one of immediate gratification. The knife felt substantial in hand, yet surprisingly lightweight. The combination of the Damascus blade and the carbon fiber inlay on the handle is visually stunning. Compared to my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and Benchmade Bugout, the Savant offered a similar level of functionality but with a distinctly more refined aesthetic.

I chose the CIVIVI Savant because it seemed to strike the perfect balance between practicality and elegance. While my other knives are purely functional, the Savant feels like a tool and a statement piece. I was definitely excited!

Real-World Testing: Putting CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF during a weekend camping trip in the Angeles National Forest. I used it for various tasks, from preparing food (slicing vegetables and sausage) to cutting rope for setting up the tent.

The Savant performed admirably in slightly damp conditions, maintaining a secure grip even when my hands were a little wet from the morning dew. Deployment was smooth and easy. After the first day, I was really impressed with the edge retention.

The knife felt very comfortable to use, with the ergonomic handle providing a secure and confident grip. I did find the framelock a little stiff at first, but after a few openings and closings, it smoothed out nicely.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of daily carry and use, the CIVIVI Savant Framelock CF has proven to be a reliable and durable tool. The black stonewash finish on the stainless steel handle and the Damascus blade has held up surprisingly well.

I’ve noticed minimal wear and tear despite using it for everything from opening packages to whittling small pieces of wood. I’ve primarily used it for opening Amazon boxes at home and some light food prep on camping trips.

Maintenance has been a breeze. I simply wipe the blade clean after each use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to the pivot point. Compared to some of my other knives that require more intricate cleaning, the Savant is incredibly easy to maintain. It outperforms some, but not all, of my higher-end knives in ease of cleaning.
