First Impressions of AFN Fun Decals
The AFN Fun Decals. A simple product, yet one that promises a bit of personality to be added to your gear. I was intrigued by the idea of these decals; small statements that could reflect a bit of humor or attitude on my otherwise serious equipment. AFN offers a variety of sayings to cater to a broad audience, and at $11.99, I was curious to see if these decals could deliver on their promise of adding a touch of fun without sacrificing quality.
What drew me to these decals was a simple need: personalization. My tactical gear, while functional and reliable, often lacks any distinguishing character. I wanted a way to subtly express my sense of humor, without compromising the professional appearance of my equipment.
Upon receiving the AFN Fun Decals, my initial impression was that they were smaller than expected. The dimensions of approximately 7.5″ x 2.5″ seemed adequate on paper, but in person, they felt somewhat petite. The material seemed to be a standard vinyl, and only time would tell if they would hold up.
I considered other options, such as custom-printed vinyl decals. However, the cost of custom decals, especially for small quantities, proved prohibitive. AFN Fun Decals offered a convenient and affordable alternative, with pre-made sayings that appealed to my tastes. I also considered simple sticker options, but the vinyl of these decals seemed like a better way to ensure durability.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The quality seemed decent for the price, and the saying I chose resonated with me. I was eager to see how well the AFN Fun Decals would adhere to my gear and withstand the rigors of outdoor use.
Real-World Testing: Putting AFN Fun Decals to the Test
First Use Experience
I decided to test the AFN Fun Decals by applying them to the side of my hard-sided rifle case. This case accompanies me to the shooting range and occasionally on hunting trips, making it a good platform to assess the decal’s durability. Application was simple: peel the backing and apply it to a clean, dry surface.
The shooting range provided a good test environment for the decal. It was a fairly dry day, but the case was exposed to sunlight and some minor dust. The decal adhered well initially, showing no signs of peeling or bubbling.
After a day at the range, I noticed one corner of the decal starting to lift slightly. It was a minor issue, but it raised concerns about long-term adhesion. Still, given the price and ease of application, it wasn’t a complete disappointment.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, the AFN Fun Decals showed some further signs of wear and tear. The edges, particularly those exposed to frequent contact, started to peel noticeably. The color also faded slightly in direct sunlight.
Cleaning the rifle case was straightforward, but I had to be careful around the decal to prevent further damage. Gentle wiping was necessary to avoid lifting the edges or scratching the vinyl. This increased the amount of time it took to properly clean the rifle case.
In comparison to other adhesive products I’ve used, the AFN Fun Decals underperformed slightly. High-quality vinyl wraps, while more expensive, offer significantly better durability and resistance to peeling and fading. The fun decals did not hold up as well as those wraps.
Breaking Down the Features of AFN Fun Decals
Specifications
The AFN Fun Decals are simple in their construction, but it is still important to understand the specs. According to AFN, the decals measure approximately 7.5″ x 2.5″. These dimensions provide a balance between visibility and subtlety, allowing the decal to be noticeable without being overly intrusive.
The product weight is listed as 0.03 lb, highlighting its lightweight nature. The fact that these decals are so lightweight means they won’t add any appreciable weight to your gear. The listed length of 9 ft is incorrect, and likely a typo.
The additional features are listed as “Just A Drinker With A,” suggesting one of the available sayings, which points to the variety AFN offers. Having options for different sayings is a strong point in their favor. The height of 0.1 inches indicates the decal’s thin profile, while the width of 3.5 inches seems inaccurate, given the overall dimensions of 7.5″ x 2.5″.
Performance & Functionality
The primary function of the AFN Fun Decals is to add a touch of personality to your gear. In this respect, they perform adequately. The sayings are often humorous or thought-provoking, sparking conversation and adding a bit of levity to otherwise serious equipment.
The main weakness lies in their durability. The decals are prone to peeling and fading, especially when exposed to harsh outdoor conditions. This limits their long-term usability and makes them more suitable for applications where they won’t be subjected to extreme wear and tear.
While they met my initial expectation of adding personalization, the AFN Fun Decals fell short in terms of longevity. I was hoping for a more durable product that could withstand the rigors of outdoor use. As it stands, the AFN Fun Decals are an inexpensive and quickly applied solution, but not a long-term commitment.
Design & Ergonomics
The design of the AFN Fun Decals is straightforward. A simple font is used to display the chosen saying. The decals are easy to apply, thanks to their peel-and-stick design.
The build quality is adequate, but not exceptional. The vinyl material is thin, and the adhesive could be stronger. This impacts the overall durability and longevity of the product.
There is virtually no learning curve with the AFN Fun Decals. Anyone can quickly and easily apply them to their gear. This is a major advantage for those seeking a hassle-free way to personalize their equipment.
Durability & Maintenance
Given the thin vinyl material and relatively weak adhesive, the AFN Fun Decals are not expected to last for an extended period, especially under harsh conditions. Expect to replace them periodically if they are subjected to frequent wear and tear.
Maintenance is minimal. Simply wipe the decals clean with a damp cloth. However, avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the vinyl and cause the colors to fade.
Repair is not really an option for the AFN Fun Decals. Once they start to peel or fade, replacement is the only viable solution. This is a drawback, as it contributes to the overall cost of ownership over time.
Accessories and Customization Options
The AFN Fun Decals do not come with any accessories. The only customization option is the selection of the saying you want to display. AFN offers a range of sayings to cater to different tastes and preferences.
The decals are not designed to be compatible with accessories from other brands. They are intended to be applied directly to your gear as a standalone personalization option. If you want something more long-lasting, it is best to go with a laser etching or another more permanent solution.

Who Should Buy AFN Fun Decals?
The AFN Fun Decals are perfect for casual users who want to add a bit of personality to their gear without investing a lot of money. This includes recreational shooters, campers, and hikers who want to subtly express their sense of humor or attitude.
Those who require durable and long-lasting personalization options should skip this product. Competitive shooters, military personnel, and law enforcement officers who subject their gear to extreme conditions should consider more robust alternatives, such as high-quality vinyl wraps or laser engraving.
Must-have accessories include a clean, dry cloth for preparing the surface before application. A heat gun or hairdryer can also be helpful for improving adhesion, but use caution to avoid damaging the vinyl.
Conclusion on AFN Fun Decals
The AFN Fun Decals offer an inexpensive and easy way to personalize your gear. However, their limited durability makes them a temporary solution at best. For those seeking a long-lasting customization option, other alternatives are worth considering.
At $11.99, the price is justified for what you get. However, be aware that you may need to replace the decals periodically, especially if they are subjected to frequent wear and tear.
I would recommend the AFN Fun Decals to casual users who prioritize affordability and ease of use over durability. However, those seeking a more robust and long-lasting personalization option should explore alternatives. Ultimately, the AFN Fun Decals are a fun, simple and easy option to add a touch of personality to your kit.
