First Impressions of EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net
The EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net promises a blend of portability and reach, something many anglers struggle to balance. Manufactured by EGO Fishing, it boasts a compact design with an extendable handle, aiming to simplify landing fish in various situations. The innovative S2 Slider mechanism and interchangeable tool capability intrigued me, promising versatility and ease of storage, which are crucial for kayak fishing.
My aging back was the primary motivator for seeking a net with an extendable handle. I was tired of contorting myself over the side of the boat to land fish. I needed a net that could reach out and bring the fish to me, and the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the net’s solid construction and lightweight feel. The PVC-coated mesh appeared durable, and the extension mechanism felt smooth and reliable. Compared to my old fixed-length net, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net offered a dramatically smaller footprint when collapsed, and felt well made compared to flimsier, cheaper extendable nets I’ve handled. I selected it over a few other models due to the brand’s reputation for quality and the S2 Slider’s reported reliability.
I was cautiously optimistic about the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net. The initial impression was positive, and I was eager to see how it performed in real-world fishing scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net on a weekend kayak fishing trip on a local lake known for its largemouth bass population. The conditions were typical for spring – partly cloudy with a slight chop on the water. I specifically wanted to test its performance in a confined space, and when needing to land larger fish.
The net performed admirably. The extension mechanism proved easy to use with one hand, allowing me to quickly adjust the handle length as needed. I landed several bass ranging from 2 to 5 pounds. One surprise was how easily the PVC mesh cleaned, eliminating the odor of fish slime.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, even after numerous encounters with rocks and submerged branches. The extension mechanism continues to function smoothly.
Cleaning is a breeze; a quick rinse with freshwater is usually all it takes. Compared to my previous net with rubberized mesh, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider-Compact PVC Net is significantly less prone to snagging hooks and easier to keep odor-free. It has exceeded my expectations, becoming an indispensable tool in my fishing arsenal.
