First Impressions of Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579
Safety at the range is paramount, and finding reliable eye and ear protection that doesn’t break the bank can be a challenge. The Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579 combo aims to provide exactly that: basic protection for both eyes and ears in a single, affordable package. It’s a no-frills solution geared towards recreational shooters and those just starting their shooting journey.
As someone who’s spent years both instructing new shooters and enjoying time at the range, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of proper safety gear. I was looking for an affordable, readily available set of basic protection for loaning to students or keeping as a backup. Could this Allen kit be the answer, or would it fall short?
Unboxing the Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579 kit, my initial impression was of straightforward functionality. The glasses felt lightweight, and the earplugs were the standard foam variety. The build quality seemed adequate for the price point, though not exceptionally robust.
Compared to premium shooting glasses from brands like ESS or Wiley X, the Allen glasses lack the advanced impact resistance and lens coatings. Similarly, higher-end earplugs offer better noise reduction and comfort than standard foam. I chose this kit primarily for its affordability and convenience as a package deal.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. This wasn’t designed to be top-of-the-line gear, but rather a budget-friendly entry point to basic shooting safety. The price point made it an attractive option for its intended purpose.
Real-World Testing: Putting Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579 to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579 kit at my local outdoor shooting range on a moderately sunny day. The conditions were dry and around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The glasses provided basic eye protection, though the clear lenses offered little in terms of glare reduction.
The foam earplugs were easy enough to insert and provided a decent level of noise reduction, although not as much as I’m used to with my custom-molded plugs. I didn’t need much time to get accustomed to the kit, as both the glasses and earplugs were quite standard in their design and functionality. The earplugs took a few attempts to get properly seated.
After the first use, I noticed that the glasses didn’t fit quite as snugly as I would have liked and tended to slide down my nose during rapid movements. The earplugs, while effective, became slightly uncomfortable after about an hour of continuous use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, the Allen Ruger 10/22 Foam Ear Plugs Adult Clear Lens Black/Red Frame 70579 kit has held up surprisingly well, considering its price. There are no visible signs of significant wear and tear on either the glasses or the earplugs themselves. The glasses have accumulated a few minor scratches on the lenses.
Maintaining the kit is incredibly simple; the glasses can be wiped clean with a microfiber cloth, and the foam earplugs are disposable. Compared to my usual high-end shooting gear, this kit is less comfortable and offers a lower level of performance. However, it still adequately fulfills its basic function of providing eye and ear protection.
