First Impressions of Tom Teasers Grave Series
The Tom Teasers Grave Series turkey calls promise a deadly arsenal for any serious turkey hunter. Tom Teasers is a known name in the game call world. This series, consisting of the Undertaker, Cremator, and Grave Digger, caught my eye because of their distinct cuts and claimed user-friendliness.
I’ve been chasing gobblers for over a decade, and the right call can make or break a hunt. My go-to diaphragm calls were starting to wear, and I needed some fresh options for varying conditions and turkey personalities. The promise of diverse sounds within a single series was enticing.
Upon unboxing, the calls felt well-constructed, albeit simple in appearance. The prophylactic reeds felt smooth and ready to produce sound. Comparing these to my older Primos and Quaker Boy calls, the Tom Teasers felt slightly thinner, potentially offering a wider range of tones.
I picked the Tom Teasers Grave Series over other calls because of Tom Teasers‘ reputation and the specific cuts offered. Each call targets a different turkey vocalization style. My initial impression was one of cautious optimism; I was eager to see if they lived up to the hype in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting Tom Teasers Grave Series to the Test
First Use Experience
My first field test of the Tom Teasers Grave Series was on a spring turkey hunt in the Ozark Mountains. The conditions were damp and cool, with a light drizzle throughout the morning. I started with the Undertaker, known for its user-friendliness.
It took a few minutes to get the hang of the Undertaker, but its “great backbone” made it easier to control compared to some more finicky diaphragm calls I’ve used. The Cremator surprised me with its ability to go from soft clucks to aggressive cuts with minimal effort. There were no initial issues, and the calls seemed to perform as advertised.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use across different hunting scenarios, the Tom Teasers Grave Series continues to impress. The calls show minimal wear and tear despite frequent use and exposure to varying weather conditions. I’ve cleaned them with water and let them air dry after each use.
The reeds have maintained their tension and sound quality over time. Comparing these calls to cheaper alternatives I’ve used in the past, the Tom Teasers Grave Series definitely outperforms them in durability and consistency. The calls produce consistent sound qualities, offering realistic turkey sounds during calls.
