Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope Review

First Impressions of Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope

The Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope is a long-range optic designed for precision shooting, manufactured by Osprey Global. With its massive 56mm objective lens, 3-30x magnification range, and first focal plane (FFP) reticle, this scope promises to deliver exceptional clarity and accuracy at extreme distances. The robust 35mm tube, locking target turrets, and illuminated reticle suggest a feature-rich scope built for serious shooters.

My search for a new optic stemmed from a desire to push the limits of my .308 Winchester rifle’s effective range. I was looking for a scope that offered both high magnification and a reliable FFP reticle for accurate holdovers at any zoom level, something my previous second focal plane (SFP) scope couldn’t provide.

Upon unboxing, the Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope immediately impressed me with its substantial feel and seemingly robust construction. The matte black finish appeared durable, and the turrets had a positive, tactile click, inspiring confidence in their adjustability. The included aluminum rings and flip-up dust covers were a welcome addition.

I had been considering the Vortex Optics Viper PST Gen II 5-25×50 and the Athlon Argos BTR GEN2 6-24×50, both popular choices in the mid-range FFP scope market. I ultimately chose the Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope due to its wider magnification range and the positive initial feedback I found, hoping it would provide better versatility for both mid-range and long-range shooting. My first impression was one of cautious optimism; the scope appeared well-built and feature-rich, and I was eager to see how it would perform at the range.

Real-World Testing: Putting Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope at my local shooting range, a controlled environment with distances up to 600 yards. I mounted the scope on my .308 Winchester rifle using the provided rings, ensuring proper eye relief and a secure fit.

The scope performed admirably, even in the bright sunlight. The image remained clear and crisp throughout the magnification range, and the illuminated reticle was easily visible against various target backgrounds. Zeroing the scope was straightforward, with the turrets providing precise and repeatable adjustments. My initial groups at 100 yards were promising, hovering around 0.75 MOA.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope has proven to be a reliable performer. The scope has held zero consistently, even after repeated adjustments and transport in a rifle case.

I have noticed some minor wear on the turret caps from regular use, but overall, the finish has held up well to the elements. Cleaning the lenses is simple, requiring only a lens cloth and a gentle cleaning solution. Compared to my previous scope, the Osprey Global Elite 3-30X56 35mm Tube Rifle Scope offers significantly better clarity, especially at higher magnifications, and the FFP reticle makes holdovers far more intuitive and accurate.
