Is it a game-changer, or just another piece of gear?

My need for this scope stemmed from a desire to push my effective range with my .308 bolt action rifle. I wanted a scope that could handle both hunting scenarios in open country and occasional target practice at extended distances. I yearned for a scope that was easy to adjust in the field and that allowed me to return to zero reliably.

Upon unboxing the Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret, the first thing I noticed was its solid construction. The matte black finish appeared durable, and the turrets felt positive and precise. It had a reassuring weight, suggesting quality materials, though I was initially concerned if that weight will eventually be a detriment.

I considered other scopes in the same price range, specifically offerings from Vortex and Primary Arms. I ultimately chose the Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret because of its combination of FFP, zero stop, and the promise of high-quality glass at a compelling price. First Use Experience

My first outing with the Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret was at my local shooting range. The weather was clear, with a slight breeze, perfect conditions for sighting in and stretching the legs of my .308. Mounting the scope was straightforward, and the 30mm tube provided plenty of options for ring selection.

The Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret performed admirably in the somewhat ideal conditions. The glass was clear and bright, allowing for easy target acquisition at various distances. The turrets provided audible and tactile clicks.

The only minor issue I encountered was getting used to the FFP reticle. At lower magnifications, it appeared quite small, requiring a conscious effort to focus on it. However, this is typical of FFP scopes and something I anticipated.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret has proven to be a reliable performer. I’ve used it in a variety of conditions, from hot and dusty days at the range to damp and chilly mornings in the deer stand. The scope has held zero consistently, even after being subjected to the bumps and jolts of field use.

The hard anodized finish has held up well, with no noticeable scratches or wear marks. I’ve made it a habit to clean the lenses after each use with a microfiber cloth, and the scope has required minimal maintenance. This has insured it is clean and ready for the next shot.

Breaking Down the Features of Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret

Specifications

• Magnification: 6-24x. This allows for versatile use at both mid-range and long-range distances, accommodating various shooting scenarios.

• Objective Lens Diameter: 50mm. A larger objective lens gathers more light, resulting in a brighter and clearer image, especially in low-light conditions.

• Tube Diameter: 30mm. A larger tube diameter allows for a wider range of adjustment for windage and elevation, crucial for long-range shooting.

• Reticle: MIL/BDC. The MIL/BDC reticle provides holdover points for bullet drop compensation and windage correction, streamlining the shooting process.

• Reticle Focal Plane: First Focal Plane (FFP). With FFP, the reticle subtensions remain consistent across all magnification levels, simplifying range estimation and holdover calculations.

• Adjustment Click Value: 0.1 Mil Rad. Fine adjustments of 0.1 Mil Rad per click allow for precise zeroing and accurate corrections.

• Adjustment Range: 21 Mil Rad. This provides ample adjustment range for dialing in shots at extended distances.

• Parallax: 10 – Infinity yds. The adjustable parallax allows for precise focus and eliminates parallax error at various distances.

• Eye Relief: 85 mm. This provides a comfortable and safe distance between the shooter’s eye and the scope.

• Length: 14.12 in. A moderate length ensures the scope fits well on most rifles without being overly cumbersome.

• Weight: 27.1 oz. While not the lightest scope on the market, the weight is reasonable for its features and build quality.

• Lens Material: HD Glass. The use of HD glass enhances image clarity and reduces chromatic aberration.

• Optical Coating: Fully Multi-Coated. Fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission and minimize glare, resulting in a brighter and clearer image.

• Illumination Color: Red. Red illumination enhances reticle visibility in low-light conditions.

• Brightness Settings: 6. Multiple brightness settings allow for optimal reticle visibility in various lighting environments.

• Battery Type: CR2032. The readily available CR2032 battery provides long-lasting power for the illuminated reticle.

• Finish: Hard Anodized. The hard anodized finish provides excellent durability and resistance to wear and tear.

• Shockproof: Yes. This ensures the scope can withstand recoil and impacts without losing zero.

• Fogproof: Yes. Nitrogen purging prevents internal fogging in humid or cold conditions.

• Waterproof: Yes. O-ring seals protect the scope from water damage.

Performance & Functionality

The Patriot Optics Ghillie 6-24x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane With Zero Stop Turret excels in its primary role: providing a clear and accurate sight picture for long-range shooting. The image quality is impressive, with good clarity and minimal distortion, even at higher magnifications. The turrets are precise and repeatable, allowing for consistent adjustments.
