First Impressions of Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec.
The market is saturated with holsters, each promising the perfect blend of security, comfort, and accessibility. However, finding one that accommodates a weapon-mounted laser or light, without sacrificing concealability, can feel like searching for a unicorn. Enter the Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec., a leather holster designed to offer a versatile solution for those who prefer to carry with accessories. This holster from Urban Carry claims to accommodate virtually any laser, light, or RMR optic, making it a compelling option for many firearm owners.
I’ve spent years trying to find a comfortable and reliable OWB holster that could handle my Glock 19 with a Streamlight TLR-7A. Most options felt bulky and printing was a significant concern. I had been using a rigid Kydex holster, but the lack of comfort was becoming a daily issue.
The Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec. arrived neatly packaged. The initial impression was one of quality; the leather felt substantial and well-stitched. The form-fitting design was immediately apparent, and the adjustable retention screws suggested a customizable fit. While I had considered a similar holster from Galco, the Urban Carry‘s more streamlined profile and accommodation for lasers/lights tilted the scales in its favor. First impressions left me intrigued and hopeful that this holster could finally solve my comfort and concealability dilemma.
Real-World Testing: Putting Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec. to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was the local shooting range. I needed to evaluate draw speed and re-holstering ease under pressure. I also wanted to assess comfort during extended wear while moving and shooting. The Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec. performed admirably.
I encountered no issues drawing my Glock 19 with the Streamlight attached, and re-holstering was smooth and secure. The holster proved comfortable during several hours of use, even in the slightly humid conditions of the indoor range. After about 50 draws, the initial stiffness of the leather began to subside.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of daily use, the Urban Carry Hyperion OWB Laser/Light Holster #306 Flu./Rec. has become my go-to holster for OWB carry. The leather has molded to my body shape, increasing comfort. Minor scuffs are visible, but this is to be expected with daily wear and adds to the character of the holster.
The holster requires minimal maintenance. I periodically wipe it down with a leather conditioner to keep it supple. The holster has remained secure and reliable, even during hikes and outdoor activities. It outperforms my previous Kydex holster in terms of comfort and concealability, especially when wearing a light jacket.
