Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake Review

First Impressions of Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake

The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake promises a quick and efficient way to clean your 9mm firearms. From META Tactical, known for their affordability and practical designs, this boresnake aims to simplify firearm maintenance. For a seasoned shooter like myself, the allure is a streamlined cleaning process, especially after a long day at the range or a rigorous training session.

I was searching for a lightweight and easily portable cleaning solution that wouldn’t take up too much space in my range bag. Tired of lugging around bulky cleaning kits, I hoped this would be a game-changer. My initial impression upon receiving the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake was positive; it felt lightweight and seemed well-constructed.

Compared to traditional cleaning rods and patches, the boresnake concept felt refreshingly simple. I’ve used similar products from Hoppe’s and Otis, and while they’re effective, I found myself constantly replacing patches and dealing with cumbersome rod segments. The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake presented itself as a more convenient, all-in-one solution. My initial excitement stemmed from the promise of quick and effective cleaning without the hassle of traditional methods, coupled with the price point of $12.00, I felt that the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake was worth a try.

Real-World Testing: Putting Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake at my local outdoor shooting range after a session with my Glock 19 and my 9mm AR-15. The conditions were relatively dry, with a slight breeze. Using the boresnake was straightforward; I simply dropped the weighted end through the breech and pulled it through the barrel.

The process was indeed faster than using a rod and patches, but I noticed some resistance, especially in the AR-15’s longer, 16-inch barrel. After the first pass, I inspected the barrel and saw that it had removed the majority of the powder residue, but some stubborn carbon fouling remained near the chamber. No immediate issues arose, but the resistance raised concerns about long-term durability, particularly when cleaning firearms with tighter tolerances.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, cleaning both my pistols and pistol-caliber carbines after each range visit, the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake has held up reasonably well. The bronze brush still seems intact, and the woven material hasn’t frayed significantly. However, I’ve observed that the cleaning effectiveness diminishes over time, requiring multiple passes to achieve a truly clean bore.

I noticed some slight wear and tear on the woven material near the brass weight, indicating potential stress points. Maintaining the boresnake is simple; I typically wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let it air dry. Compared to my experience with more expensive boresnakes, the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake seems to provide decent, though not exceptional, value for its price, but it might not hold up to the rigors of heavy, frequent use.

Breaking Down the Features of Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake

Specifications

The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake is specifically designed for 9mm Luger firearms. It’s constructed using a combination of metal and woven fabric materials. The Manufacturer is Meta Tactical. The overall design integrates a bronze brush within the snake’s body to loosen fouling as it passes through the barrel.

• Caliber: 9mm Luger – Crucial for ensuring a snug fit and effective cleaning of 9mm barrels.
• Fabric/Material: Metal (bronze brush) and woven fabric – Balancing durability with the ability to absorb cleaning solvents and trap debris.
• Color: Black – A practical color choice that hides dirt and stains.
• Integrated Bronze Brush: Loosens stubborn carbon fouling, making it easier to remove.
• Durable Construction: Allows for repeated use, enhancing its longevity.
• One-Pass Design: Simplifies the cleaning process, saving time and effort.
• META Branded Woven Label: Indicates authenticity and quality control.

Performance & Functionality

The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake performs adequately for light cleaning after a range session. The one-pass design simplifies the cleaning process, making it relatively quick and convenient. Its strengths lie in its portability and ease of use, especially for shooters on the go.

However, it struggles with heavy carbon fouling, requiring multiple passes and additional cleaning solutions to achieve optimal results. While it meets basic expectations for a budget-friendly boresnake, more demanding users may find its cleaning power insufficient.

Design & Ergonomics

The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake features a simple, functional design. The materials used appear reasonably durable for the price point, though they lack the premium feel of higher-end competitors. The lightweight construction makes it easy to handle and store.

There is minimal learning curve involved; anyone familiar with firearms cleaning can use it effectively right away. The META Branded woven label also adds a nice touch of authenticity.

Durability & Maintenance

The longevity of the Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake is a potential concern. The woven material may fray over time with repeated use, especially if exposed to harsh solvents. Maintaining it involves regular washing with mild soap and water and allowing it to air dry completely.

Repairing it isn’t feasible; once the material starts to break down, replacement is the only option. Given its price, however, frequent replacements are still a relatively affordable option for many shooters.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Meta Tactical Gun Cleaning 9mm Boresnake is a standalone cleaning tool and doesn’t offer any customization options or accessories. While it is compatible with most standard 9mm cleaning solvents, there are no specific attachments or modifications available. Be sure to use solvents sparingly to preserve the integrity of the woven material.
