The Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack promises to be a versatile addition to any angler’s tackle box, offering a proven design with quality components. These jigs aim to provide a reliable and effective presentation in a variety of fishing conditions. I was eager to see if they lived up to the hype, especially given their reputation for attracting strikes.
My interest in football jigs stems from their effectiveness in targeting bass around rocky bottoms and structure. I was looking for a jig that could effectively navigate these areas while triggering aggressive strikes. The Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack, with its football-shaped head and VMC hook, seemed like a promising contender based on initial research.
Upon receiving the Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack, I was immediately impressed by the vibrant color combinations of the skirts. The VMC hooks looked incredibly sharp, and the overall construction appeared solid. These jigs felt well-made and ready for action.
Compared to other football jigs I’ve used, such as the Strike King Lure Company KVD Football Jig and the Dirty Jigs Tackle Pitchin’ Jig, the Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack stood out due to its skirt detail and the reputation of Chompers for quality. I chose these over others hoping for a combination of reliability and fish-attracting design at a good price. I was excited to get them in the water and see what they could do.
Real-World Testing: Putting Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack on a local lake known for its rocky bottom and clear water. I primarily targeted areas around submerged ledges and rock piles where bass are known to congregate. The water temperature was around 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and the weather was partly cloudy with a slight breeze.
The jigs performed admirably in these conditions. Their football shape allowed them to easily navigate the rocky bottom without snagging excessively. The skirt provided an enticing action that seemed to draw the attention of nearby fish. I did find the 2-inch length to be a little short for my liking in some scenarios, but overall, the initial impression was positive.
There were no immediate issues after the first use, but the skirt did show minor wear after a few hours of dragging it across the rocks. This was expected and didn’t detract significantly from the jig’s overall performance.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Chompers Skirted Football Jig – 2 Pack has proven to be a reliable addition to my tackle. The VMC hooks have remained sharp, and the skirts, while showing some wear, have maintained their vibrant colors. I have caught several bass ranging from 2 to 5 pounds on these jigs.
The durability has been acceptable for the price point, though I noticed some slight fading of the skirt colors after prolonged exposure to sunlight. Cleaning is relatively simple; I typically rinse them with fresh water after each use and allow them to air dry. Compared to other jigs I’ve used, these have held up well and consistently delivered results, making them a solid choice for anglers looking for a dependable option.
