First Impressions of 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S
The 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S is a specialized piece of gear designed by 5.11 Tactical for shooters demanding both protection and dexterity. These gloves promise a blend of durability, tactile sensitivity, and a secure grip, tailored for competitive shooting environments and tactical applications alike. The uniform white color might raise an eyebrow for some, but I was intrigued by the potential for increased visibility and hygiene monitoring.
As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve always been on the lookout for gloves that offer the perfect balance between protection and dexterity. My current gloves, while robust, often feel bulky and inhibit fine motor skills, particularly when manipulating firearms or tactical equipment. The 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S aims to address this, offering a lighter, more tactile solution.
Upon unboxing, the gloves felt surprisingly lightweight. The materials seemed high-quality, offering a promising initial impression of durability. The uniform white color was definitely striking and different from my usual black or tan tactical gloves; this might be an advantage for quickly spotting dirt or residue, but it definitely makes them stand out.
Compared to my Mechanix Wear M-Pact gloves (focused on impact protection) and my Outdoor Research Ironsight Sensor gloves (focused on dexterity), the 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S seemed to strike a middle ground. I chose them specifically for the promise of enhanced tactile feel and a more secure grip during weapon manipulation, something I found lacking in my other pairs. I was cautiously optimistic, eager to see if the gloves lived up to their performance claims on the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S was at an outdoor shooting range during a practical pistol match. The day was sunny and dry, providing ideal conditions for evaluating the gloves’ grip and dexterity. I used them throughout the entire match, which involved various shooting scenarios, reloads, and manipulations of my firearm.
The standout feature was the exceptional grip, particularly when handling my pistol in various shooting stances. I didn’t experience any slippage, even with slightly sweaty hands. The gloves allowed for precise trigger control and seamless magazine changes, boosting my overall shooting efficiency.
After the match, I noticed a slight discoloration from handling the firearm, but nothing a quick wipe couldn’t fix. Surprisingly, even after a full day of use, the gloves remained comfortable, with no noticeable chafing or discomfort. My initial surprise was that they held up better than expected despite the light weight and the white color.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, including multiple range sessions and some light tactical training, the 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S has proven to be surprisingly durable. There are minor signs of wear and tear, particularly on the fingertips and palm, but no significant damage or stitching issues.
Cleaning them is straightforward; a gentle hand wash with mild soap and air drying keeps them looking relatively clean, considering the white color. However, some stains, particularly from gunpowder residue, are more stubborn and require a bit more effort to remove completely. They require more frequent cleaning compared to darker colored gloves.
Compared to my older, heavier tactical gloves, the 5.11 Tactical Competition Shtg Glv 2.0 5-59394134S offers a significant improvement in dexterity and comfort. They’ve become my go-to choice for any shooting activity where precision and tactile feel are paramount. The light color is not ideal for heavy duty applications and should be considered as a trade off.
