Yamamoto Baits has built a reputation on quality and innovation, and the Hula Grub is a testament to that. Its double-tail design and subtle body profile make it a versatile bait for enticing a variety of fish. I was looking for a confidence bait that could produce results in both clear and murky waters.
My journey to the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub started with frustration. I was struggling to find a consistent lure that worked well in the diverse fishing conditions of my local lakes. I needed something adaptable, something that could be fished on a variety of rigs and still trigger strikes. The Hula Grub promised that versatility.
Upon receiving the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub, my initial impression was positive. The plastic felt soft and pliable, hinting at the action it would have in the water. The double tails were perfectly formed and the body had a subtle yet enticing profile. It was clear that Yamamoto Baits paid attention to detail.
Compared to other grub-style baits I’ve used, like the Berkley PowerBait Power Grub and the Zoom Fat Albert Grub, the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub stood out for its subtle action and lifelike feel. I chose it because I believed it offered a more natural presentation, something that could trigger strikes when other, more aggressive baits failed. I thought the price point offered excellent value, given the reputation of Yamamoto Baits.
I was definitely excited to try the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub. I had heard stories of its effectiveness and hoped it would become a staple in my tackle arsenal. The anticipation of landing some big bass with this new weapon was high.
Real-World Testing: Putting Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub on a local lake known for its pressured bass population. I rigged it on a Texas rig with a 1/4 oz tungsten weight and a 3/0 EWG hook. I targeted submerged weed lines and rocky points.
The conditions were slightly overcast with a moderate breeze. The water clarity was decent but had a slight stain due to recent rain. The Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub performed admirably. I was able to feel the subtle vibrations of the tails even in the wind, and the bait maintained its action even when dragged slowly along the bottom.
It was easy to use, and the bait’s soft plastic allowed for easy hooksets. No time was needed to get used to the bait, it was an immediate fit in the water. After only an hour, I landed two bass, a testament to the lure’s fish-attracting ability.
The only surprise was how well it worked even with a relatively fast retrieve. I had initially planned to fish it slowly, but the bass seemed to react well to a faster presentation.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of using the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub, it has become one of my go-to baits. It has proven to be incredibly versatile, performing well on Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, and even as a trailer on a spinnerbait. It works well on a Jig Head for deeper water or current.
The durability is impressive for a soft plastic bait. Even after catching multiple fish, the Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub holds up surprisingly well. The tails remain intact, and the body doesn’t tear easily.
Maintenance is minimal; simply rinsing the bait off after use is enough to keep it in good condition. The Yamamoto Baits Double Tail Hula Grub has far outperformed my previous experiences with other soft plastic baits. It has proven to be more durable and more effective at attracting fish.
