First Impressions of Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short
The Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short is a seemingly simple piece of kit. However, after years of losing essential equipment in the field, I’ve learned the value of a good tether. Guardian Angel, a company known for its illumination solutions, offers this attachment as a means to secure their Elite devices. For just under seven dollars, could this little tether solve a big problem?
My line of work often puts me in situations where losing gear isn’t just inconvenient; it’s dangerous. I needed a reliable way to secure my light to my person without adding unnecessary bulk or complexity. When comparing it to retractable lanyards, which can be bulky and prone to failure, or simple paracord loops that lack adjustability, the Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short looked promising with its adjustable length and quick disconnect.
Upon unboxing, the initial impression was one of utilitarian simplicity. The materials felt durable enough, though not exceptionally premium. It was a straightforward design comprised of a carabiner, cord lock, and adjustable cord. My initial excitement stemmed from the potential peace of mind it offered, knowing my crucial illumination device wouldn’t end up lost in the brush or at the bottom of a ravine.
Real-World Testing: Putting Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test run was during a night navigation exercise in dense woodland. I attached the Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short to my Guardian Angel Elite Series device and clipped the carabiner to a D-ring on my tactical vest. It felt secure and didn’t snag on branches as I moved through the undergrowth. The ability to quickly disconnect the light to use it freely and then re-tether it was a definite advantage.
The wet conditions tested the cord’s water resistance. It didn’t seem to absorb much water or become excessively heavy. I initially noticed a bit of fiddling with the cord lock to get the adjustment just right. It was nothing major, but something to consider in high-stress situations.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of daily use, including a multi-day camping trip and numerous range sessions, the Guardian Angel Device Tether Attachment, Short has proven to be surprisingly resilient. There are no signs of fraying or wear on the cord, and the carabiner still functions smoothly. The only noticeable change is a slight dulling of the black finish on the metal components.
Maintenance has been minimal; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove dirt and grime. Compared to previous experiences with cheaper tethers that quickly wore out or broke, this one has definitely exceeded my expectations. I find myself trusting it implicitly, something I can’t say about many low-cost accessories.
