Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit Review

Let’s Dive into Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit

The Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit promises extended propane use for RVers and campers. This kit, manufactured by Marshall Excelsior, aims to bridge the gap between convenience and extended trips without the hassle of constantly refilling propane tanks. It boasts a brass tee connection, a 5-foot hose, and a 12-foot hose, all designed to seamlessly integrate with your existing propane system.

My own need for a reliable propane solution arose from increasingly frequent camping trips. Constantly monitoring propane levels and the anxiety of running out mid-trip became tiresome. I wanted a simple, effective way to connect an auxiliary propane tank to my RV without compromising safety or performance.

Upon unboxing, the Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit presented a solid first impression. The brass fittings felt weighty and well-machined, promising a leak-free connection. The hoses appeared durable and flexible, ready to withstand the rigors of outdoor use.

I considered similar kits from brands like Mr. Heater and Camco. However, the Marshall Excelsior kit stood out due to its inclusion of both a 5-foot and a 12-foot hose, providing greater flexibility in tank placement. The five-year limited warranty also instilled confidence in the product’s longevity. I was initially excited by the prospect of worry-free propane usage, tempered by a cautious hope that it would live up to its “Stay Longer Plus” name.

Real-World Testing: Putting Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

My first test run occurred during a week-long camping trip in the Allegheny National Forest. I connected the Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit to my RV’s propane system and a spare 20-pound propane tank. The installation was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions provided.

The kit performed flawlessly, maintaining consistent propane pressure to my RV’s appliances even as the primary tank dwindled. No leaks were detected, and the connection remained secure throughout the trip, despite varying temperatures and occasional rain. The extended propane supply eliminated my usual anxiety about running out of fuel, allowing me to fully enjoy the experience.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of continuous use during multiple camping trips, the Marshall Excelsior MER473 Stay Longer Plus Kit continues to perform reliably. There are no signs of wear and tear on the hoses or fittings. The brass components have retained their integrity, resisting corrosion and maintaining a tight seal.

Maintenance involves a simple visual inspection of the hoses and connections before each trip. I have not needed to perform any repairs or replacements. Compared to my previous reliance on a single propane tank, this kit has significantly enhanced the convenience and peace of mind of my camping experiences.
