Let’s Talk About JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainer
The JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainer might not be the sexiest piece of gear in your RV, but it’s a vital component for maintaining a tidy and functional living space on the road. These unassuming little retainers from JR Products are designed to hold back your RV curtains, acting as both a valance holdback and a bracing/hanger for flat curtain rods. For just under seven dollars, you’re essentially buying peace of mind and a touch of organization in a space where every square inch counts.
What led me to this product? I was wrestling with the curtains in my old travel trailer; they were constantly drooping and blocking windows, making the interior feel cramped. I needed a simple, affordable solution to keep them neatly in place. After researching numerous options, the JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainer seemed to offer the best balance of functionality and cost-effectiveness.
Upon receiving the package, I was surprised by the simplicity of the design. These are plain, molded plastic retainers, but they felt sturdy enough for the job. The included mounting screws were a welcome bonus, saving me a trip to the hardware store. Initially, my impression was that these were basic but potentially effective, exactly what I needed to solve my curtain woes.
Compared to magnetic curtain tiebacks and elaborate decorative holdbacks, the JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainer stood out for its straightforward utility. I considered more stylish options, but their higher price points and questionable durability steered me towards these practical retainers. Ultimately, I chose functionality over flash, hoping these would provide a long-lasting solution. I was excited to finally have a way to keep my curtains looking neat and staying out of the way.

First Use Experience
I installed the JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainers in my travel trailer, specifically in the living area and bedroom. Installation involved simply screwing them into the wall adjacent to the windows. The plastic felt solid as I drove the screws in, and the retainers held firmly in place.
I tested them over a weekend camping trip in varying conditions. The weather was mostly dry, but there were some gusty winds. The retainers performed admirably, keeping the curtains neatly secured even with the windows open. The curtains stayed out of the way, letting in plenty of natural light without flapping around.
The JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainers were incredibly easy to use. I simply draped the curtains over them to keep them open and easily pulled them free when I wanted privacy or shade. There were no unexpected issues during the first use; they worked exactly as intended, providing a simple and effective solution to my curtain problem.

After several months of use, the JR Products 81485 Side Curtain Retainers continue to perform well. They have proven to be surprisingly durable, showing no signs of cracking or weakening, despite regular use and exposure to the sun.
The retainers have held up remarkably well to the rigors of RV life. There are no visible signs of wear and tear, and they still hold the curtains securely in place. Maintenance is practically non-existent. I occasionally wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove dust, but that’s all they require.
