Its clam shell design, security cable, and pre-drilled mounting holes make it a versatile option for various settings.

As an outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I often encounter situations where secure storage for firearms is essential, especially during travel or in less-than-secure environments. My primary need was a discreet and easily transportable vault that wouldn’t rely on electronic components that could fail. I was looking for something simple, rugged, and reliable for peace of mind.

Upon unboxing the Nighthawk Mobile Vault I, I was immediately struck by its solid feel and compact dimensions. The 18-gauge steel construction felt robust, and the black powder-coated finish gave it a discreet and professional look. The foam interior was a welcome touch, promising to protect the contents from scratches and bumps.

Compared to other small pistol safes I’ve used, like the GunVault MicroVault or the Vaultek LifePod, the Nighthawk Mobile Vault I stood out for its simplicity. I chose the Nighthawk Mobile Vault I for its mechanical combination lock, whereas the other options included electronic locks. The lack of batteries was a major selling point.

My first impression was a sense of reassurance. While it’s not a heavy-duty safe, the Surelock Security 9.5in Nighthawk Mobile Vault I – Combination Lock seemed like a dependable option for basic security needs.
