Let’s Talk About Rivers Edge Treestands 17 ft Lockdown Wide 1-Man Treestand
For years, I’ve chased whitetails from various stands: ground blinds, climbers, and hang-ons. Yet, the allure of a comfortable, secure ladder stand that simplifies setup has always lingered. This led me to the Rivers Edge Treestands 17 ft Lockdown Wide 1-Man Treestand, a product promising both ease of use and rock-solid stability.
I was seeking a stand that minimized setup time and maximized comfort for those all-day sits during the rut. The Rivers Edge‘s Lockdown technology and wide platform seemed to address these needs perfectly.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately struck by the stand’s robust construction. The steel felt substantial, and the welds appeared clean and strong. Its weight at 96 lbs was noticeable, hinting at the sturdiness Rivers Edge advertised, though I knew it would be a consideration for transportation.
I considered the Millennium L110 and the Muddy The Boss Hawg, both popular options. The Rivers Edge, however, stood out due to its Lockdown system, promising secure ground-level attachment, and what appeared to be a more spacious platform. My initial excitement was tempered with a slight apprehension about the weight, but overall, I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Rivers Edge Treestands 17 ft Lockdown Wide 1-Man Treestand to the Test
First Use Experience
I first deployed the Rivers Edge Treestands 17 ft Lockdown Wide 1-Man Treestand on a well-traveled deer funnel in a hardwood bottom near my property. Setting it up was a unique experience thanks to the Lockdown system. Ratcheting the stand to the tree from the ground felt significantly safer and easier than struggling at height as with other ladder stands.
The initial climb was surprisingly stable. The octagonal ladder rails and LadderLock connections provided a confidence-inspiring ascent. Once seated, the wide TearTuff mesh seat proved incredibly comfortable, and the flip-out footrest offered welcome relief for my legs after a few hours.
After several hours, I was impressed by the stability and comfort. No unexpected creaks or swaying, a testament to the robust design.
Extended Use & Reliability
After a full season of use, the Rivers Edge Treestands 17 ft Lockdown Wide 1-Man Treestand has proven to be a reliable and durable hunting companion. The steel construction shows no signs of bending or weakening. The only wear I’ve observed is some minor scratching on the vinyl-dipped parts, which is to be expected.
Cleaning the stand after each hunt is straightforward. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. Compared to previous stands I’ve used, this one requires minimal maintenance to keep it in top condition.
This stand has undoubtedly outperformed my previous experiences with less sturdy ladder stands. It provided a secure and comfortable platform for long days in the woods.
