Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green Review

Let’s Talk About Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green

The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green is more than just a keychain; it’s a compact, potentially life-saving tool. Manufactured by Combat Ready, this unassuming paracord creation boasts a small steel ball core for added heft and impact. At a mere $3.99, it promises a lot in a small package, blending practicality with a touch of tactical flair.

I initially sought out a monkey fist for personal safety during late-night dog walks in dimly lit areas. I wanted something small and easily concealable, yet capable of delivering a deterrent if necessary. The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green, with its seemingly robust construction and affordable price point, piqued my interest.

Upon unboxing—or rather, unwrapping from its hangpackaged form—I was immediately struck by its compact size. The OD green paracord appeared tightly woven, and the steel ball felt substantial within its woven cage. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic; it seemed well-made for the price, but the true test would be in its functionality and durability.

I considered similar self-defense keychains, including pepper spray and small kubatons. However, pepper spray has legal restrictions in some areas, and a kubaton requires specific training for effective use. The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green seemed like a more universally acceptable and potentially versatile option. I was excited to explore its capabilities, though a little skeptical about how well it would hold up under stress.

Real-World Testing: Putting Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green to the Test

First Use Experience

My first use of the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green was during a weekend camping trip in the local state park. I primarily used it for securing a bear bag, testing its knot-tying capabilities and the strength of the paracord loop. It performed surprisingly well in this role, easily handling the weight of the food bag.

The weather was mostly dry, but we did experience a brief, light rain shower. The paracord absorbed some moisture, but it didn’t seem to affect the overall integrity or grip of the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green. It remained easy to handle, even with slightly damp hands.

Using the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green was intuitive; the loop provided a secure grip, and the overall design felt comfortable in hand. No significant adjustments were needed to become familiar with its use. I was pleasantly surprised by its initial performance and utility in a camping setting.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of carrying the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green as a keychain, I began to notice some minor fraying of the paracord near the loop. However, this was purely cosmetic, and the structural integrity remained intact. I’ve used it multiple times for various tasks, from untangling knots to securing light loads.

The durability has been acceptable considering the price point. While the paracord shows some signs of wear, the steel ball remains securely encased, and the overall construction is holding up. It’s important to note that this isn’t a high-end, mil-spec piece of gear, so expecting flawless performance would be unrealistic.

Maintenance is simple; I occasionally brush off dirt or debris, and I’ve considered applying a paracord sealant to prevent further fraying. Compared to my previous experiences with similar paracord products, the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green is performing adequately. It’s not exceeding expectations in terms of durability, but it’s also not a complete disappointment.

Breaking Down the Features of Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green

Specifications

The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green features a 5.5-inch overall length. The OD green paracord is tightly woven around a small steel ball. The loop end provides a secure attachment point. It’s packaged in a simple hangpackaged format.

These specifications are important because they directly impact the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green’s usability and effectiveness. The 5.5-inch length is compact enough for keychain carry, while the steel ball adds significant weight for potential impact. The paracord provides a durable and grippy surface.

Performance & Functionality

The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green is functional as a self-defense tool, knot-tying aid, and keychain accessory. Its weight and compact size make it easy to carry and deploy if needed. However, its effectiveness as a self-defense tool is dependent on user skill and situational awareness.

Its strengths include its affordability, compact size, and potential for versatile use. A weakness is the limited durability of the paracord, which may fray with extended use. It meets my basic expectations for a budget-friendly monkey fist, but it’s not a premium, heavy-duty product.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality is decent for the price. The paracord is tightly woven, providing a comfortable grip. The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green’s weight is noticeable but not cumbersome, adding to its potential effectiveness as a self-defense tool.

It is user-friendly with no significant learning curve. The loop provides a secure and ergonomic grip. The OD green color is practical and blends well with outdoor gear.

Durability & Maintenance

The Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green is expected to last for a reasonable amount of time with proper care, but the paracord will eventually show signs of wear. It is relatively easy to maintain; cleaning off dirt and debris is the primary requirement. Applying a paracord sealant may prolong its lifespan.

Accessories and Customization Options

The product does not come with any additional accessories. Customization options are limited to potentially adding beads or charms to the loop. However, the Combat Ready Monkey Fist OD Green is primarily a standalone product. It doesn’t lend itself to significant modifications. It is not specifically designed to be compatible with accessories from other brands beyond generic keychain attachments.
